Summary

Spitfire Ace provides a vivid portrait of the few that flew in the Battle of Britain. The battle, in 1940, was one of the most famous air battles in the history of warfare. It is a story of ruthless organisation, and brilliant control and command. And at its heart is a legendary figure, the RAF fighter pilot, and one particular plane, a piece of machinery of almost mythic historical glamour: the Supermarine Spitfire.

Spitfire Ace includes interviews with many of the surviving veteran Spitfire pilots. Combined with a historical narrative of the events surrounding the Battle of Britain, you will learn what it was really like to fly a Spitfire and to experience combat flying at its most visceral.

Moving and informative

Well read book on a subject I have a big interest in. I was nice to hear first hand experiences of the battles they fought.

Succinct and good overall summary

Enjoyable, but it took time to get used to the slightly false accents. Not sure I did!

Spitfire Ace

A brilliant insight to what these young pilots achieved under tremendous odds. Their response to defend England was undaunted by odds nor danger. Without their bravery and sacrifices of winning the Battle of Britain during the Summer of 1940. Hitler would have been unstoppable in his inevitable invasion of our England, our home. We owe these young pilots a huge debt of gratitude. Even 83 years after the event.
