Summary
What happens when an exorcist who spent a lifetime banishing ghosts gets murdered and becomes one?
When Jake Fletcher died, he discovered a horrible truth: the method he was using to send souls to the afterlife wasn’t sending them to a better place.... It was obliterating them.
To atone for his mortal sins, he becomes a spectral detective, a phantom PI who helps restless spirits depart the earthly plane by bringing their killers to justice.
His latest job is no open-and-shut case though. The ghost of a dead woman needs his help to pass on to the other side, but for that to happen, Jake will have to defeat a demon.
Does he have what it takes to send this killer back to hell, or is another soul about to be lost forever?
Mystery, scares, and the paranormal collide in this bizarre noir. Fans of Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files will love this pause-resisting detective story with a supernatural twist.
Note: All the audiobooks in the Spectral Detective series can be listened to as stand-alone novels.
This audiobook was originally titled Fresh Hell as part of the Ghosted series.

Fantastic story, brilliant narrator. The only down side for me is it should have been longer.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book and Mark Restuccia narrated it perfectly which adds to the enjoyment.
The storyline is good so I will be looking to read more by David Bussell.

Silliest book I've ever read
I really liked the premise of a sceptic detective who dies, and then realises the paranormal is real after all, and becomes a ghost investigator.
The opening scenes set down by the canal were great - grabbed the reader for sure.
For me, that's where the positives ended. I found the story to get sillier and sillier, inconsistent in what ghosts can and can't "do".
I didn't warm to the main character at all - totally derivative and tedious (who actually says "Jesus H Christ" in the UK?) . He was a hackneyed 'jaded cynical cop who's seen it all' in the vaguely sexist 1970s style, but not in the nostalgic way. Bit of a yawn.
Maybe some unconstructed fellas who are looking for a holiday read might enjoy this more than I did. But ... it wasn't for me unfortunately.
