Summary
Inspiration for the Netflix Limited Series, Tales of the City
The fifth novel in the beloved Tales of the City series, Armistead Maupin’s best-selling San Francisco saga.
Tranquillity reigns in the ancient redwood forest until a women-only music festival sets up camp downriver from an all-male retreat for the ruling class. Among those entangled in the ensuing mayhem are a lovesick nurseryman, a panic-stricken philanderer, and the world’s most beautiful fat woman.
Significant Others is Armistead Maupin’s cunningly observed meditation on marriage, friendship, and sexual nostalgia.

A joy to listen to
I effortlessly breezed thru this audio book in just a few days. Wonderful, tantalising characters, expertly brought to life by Cynthia Nixon and written so tangibly by Armistead Maupin. I was hooked by the storylines and couldn't wait to get thru each chapter.

Flagging a bit
Story is okay but not as rich and engrossing as the others. Cynthia Nixon does a fantastic job at narrating.

So many characters...
There are SO many characters in this book, it was hard to keep up. I had to write them down, there were so many. Multiple plots. I couldn't invest in any of the characters as they just didn't seem appealing to me. It certainly seems a stand out book for the time it was published (a good few decades ago) regarding LGBTQ relationships. Narration was very good.
