Summary

When a terrible accident abruptly ends her riding career, Rachel Parker returns to Pennsylvania to rebuild her family’s horse farm. But her welcome home is anything but warm. Her sister’s abusive husband and a violent vandal threaten Rachel’s new business and her life. Someone is systematically trying to destroy her. Someone who knows private things about her. Someone who’s been watching her. Now Rachel must face the fact that the sins of her carefully hidden past have returned to haunt her...

Police Chief Mike O’Connell never had trouble drawing the line between his personal life and his job - until he met Rachel Parker. Mike’s investigation uncovers a shocking number of secrets and suspects. But the stalker’s escalating violence convinces him he doesn’t have much time to sort through it all. Whoever is watching Rachel wants her dead. Mike and Rachel race to untangle a web of deceit and lies that stretches two decades into the past - before her stalker strikes again.

Enjoyable!

Great as a series or standalone - Melinda Leigh is one of my favourite authors and this book is no exception. Always very strong female character portrayal. Great narration too.

Good suspense but poor narration

A great story with a realistic romance, somewhat ruined by poor narration. The female voices of this narrator were really irritating - she made her voice rise too high to distinguish from the male voices and it sounded like the female characters were children.

I would happily read another book by this author, but would probably avoid if it had the same narrator.

Had to stop reading...

...not because it was scary, but because of the constant, lurid references to sexual attraction. We get it, there is sexual tension. She's trying to ignore it. No need to oversell it - the audience is much more emotionally aware than the author seems to give credit for. I do like my books to have a human element, but this gets in the way of otherwise fine story telling. Love the dog, though!

mediocre

the narration was flat and one dimensionalast which made the characters the same so I could not really invest in them.

I also found the book predictable perhaps because I listened to it straight after when can run.

I won't try anymore in this series as I suspect they all follow the same pattern so the identity of the criminal will never be a surprise.
