Summary

The stories in this collection were first published in Analog, a science fiction magazine, between 1990 and 2011. They feature the adventures of eccentric kilt-wearing anthropologist, archaeologist, and xenologist Rhys Llewellyn and his able assistants, Yoshi Umeki and Roderick Halfax. Given my fascination with archaeology, first contact…and all things Scottish, I suppose these stories were inevitable.

Editor reviews

Narrator Alex Block's confident delivery sweeps listeners quickly into the life of anthropologist, archaeologist, and xenologist Rhys Llewellyn, who is working with the Tanaka Corporation to make contact with the natives of the world of Pa-Loana. Aided by his assistants, the kilt-wearing Scot is used to his own idiosyncratic methods of communication, and listeners will be amused as Rhys quickly discovers that there are other means of negotiation that he hasn't quite considered. Block clearly relishes performing Rhys' brogue, and listeners will enjoy the way his words roll off his tongue.
