Summary

She wants nothing to do with love. He’d give anything to change her tune…

The last thing Lucy needs is another relationship. She has musical dreams that’ll take her far from this small town, and romance would only hold her back. So, she’ll sing at the bar in the hopes of being discovered. But she will not fall for the hot bartender. Or so she told herself…

Jason knows Lucy is too good for the losers at the club. Too bad she’s apparently too good for him, too. Whether she’s oblivious to his attraction or actively avoiding him, his odds of winning the sexy singer’s heart aren’t good. No matter how much he longs to try…

But when Lucy needs a hero, Jason immediately steps into the role. All that remains to be seen now is if a little forced proximity will help them get to happily ever after, or serve them nothing but heartache…

Served, book 1 in The Club series (interconnected standalones), is a lightly angsty, enemies-to-lovers contemporary romance featuring a talented, curvy heroine, and the protective hero who steals her well-guarded heart. Download today for a big serving of spicy fun.

loved

I loved the narration of Eliza Summers
I loved the chemistry between Jason and Lucy. This is a contemporary romance. It handles a tough subject beautifully. Jason's love and support for Lucy was perfect. I loved that Lucy, with the help of her best friend, found the courage to step up and speak out about what happened to her.

A Balanced New Adult Romance

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did though it does touch on some very tough subjects, including sexual assault. I loved the chemistry between Jason and Lucy. It was intense, as young love can be. I did find Jason to be a little too intense but his back story and generosity as a lover perhaps balances this out. I also enjoyed the supporting characters, namely Jazz and Amy. I am glad to see that Amy has her own story in the series.

I thought April D Berry did a super job of covering the issue of assault. She, very gracefully, covered the flaws in the system that prevents victims from receiving the justice they deserve. She even touched on the shame associated with being assaulted and the blame game that can sometimes come with this experience.

But luckily this is fiction and there is a HEA. And there are more books in the series!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Great steam!

A great start to the club series. Story had many twists and turns, and great steamy scenes! Bit of miscommunication which isn’t my favourite, but the relationship as a whole made up for it. (And the gorgeous, broody, Jason, of course) April Berry also always writes best friends who I adore!
The narration was on point, had me blushing at times too! Sounds great, even if I speed it up it’s still an easy listen. Eliza’s voice is so expressive and not at all annoying (thank goodness!)
