About this listen

You heard it here first: The unabridged edition of Sepulchre is only available as a download.

Set against the tumultuous backdrop of southern France, Sepulchre is the stunning new novel of obsession and revenge from the number-one best-selling author of Labyrinth.

October 1891: A young girl, Léonie Verniern, and her brother, Anatole, abandon the gas-lit streets of Paris for the sanctuary of the Domaine de la Cade, some miles south of the medieval city of Carcassone. But, in the ancient woods that surround the isolated country house, Léonie stumbles across a ruined Visigoth sepulchre - and a timeless mystery whose traces are written in blood. As she peels back the layers of the past, she uncovers the existence of a unique deck of tarot cards that are rumoured to hold the power of life and death.

October 2007: Researching a biography of the composer Claude Debussy in the apparent tranquillity of the Pyrenean foothills, Meredith Marin also seeks the key to her own complex legacy. Armed with a haunting piece of piano music and a sepia photograph, she soon becomes immersed in the story of a tragic love, a missing girl, an unquiet soul, and the strange events of one cataclysmic night more than a century ago.

As the Feast of All Saints approaches - when the veil between life and death is at its thinnest - Meredith is drawn inexorably to a secluded forest glade where the secrets of the past are far from buried.

Great story

Excellent follow up to Labyrinth. American narrator is excellent and terrific story, far better tale than author's previous. I was quite disappointed to get to the end of this one. I was a little disappointed with Labyrinth, this more than made up for it.

Narration a problem

Firstly let me say that I am a fan of this series. I have both read and listened to Labyrinth and also have a printed copy of Sepulchre which is what leads me to find fault with this recording. The narrator actually does a good job at portraying the characters and I have no problem with the American accent as some reviewers have. After all, there are English narrators who read American books. No, the issue I have is that the text from which she is reading is very obviously severely edited for the American market with all English words and phrases changed to the American counterparts. Nothing wrong with that if downloading in the USA but I think most English listeners (and possibly many American ones too) would prefer to hear the original text as written by Kate Mosse. As I believe this narrator is based in the UK, perhaps the opportunity for her to read the English edition as some point...........................

Well researched and we'll narrated

I have read Sepulchre several times as I am a fan of Kate Mosses' work. I'm glad I opted to listen this time around as it has given me a different view on the characters that I have created in my imagination. Labyrinth is still my favourite of the trilogy.

Voices dissapointed

The voice of the main character Leone was squeaky and disturbed the flow of the story for me.

Great!

I really enjoyed labyrinth and so went straight to sepulchre to download… I was a little concerned about some of the reviews regarding the American narrator but I needn’t have been. After the English narrator of labyrinth, the American accent was a little strange at first but by the end of the 1st chapter my ear had adjusted and I actually really enjoyed Lorelei Kings narration. A great story, someone recommended this series to me years ago and I’m only just getting around to them, but so glad I did… very easy listening!

Superb!

I loved this book and could not put it down. The story which linked such realistic characters in time and the supernatural, held my whole attention all the way through. I really liked the way the music added such atmosphere between sections. I would reckomend this to anyone who likes Barbara Erskine or Pamela Hartshorn.

Unbearable narration

Had to stop listening. Couldn’t bear the grating voices and unnecessary ( given it’s French people in France) fake French accents. Spoiled the whole thing. Will avoid this narrator in future.
