Summary
Nothing says you can’t steal a heart. Keeping it though? That’s another problem.
Wade Espinoza knows a thing or two about hoards. As a dragon, he’s got plenty. What he doesn’t have is a relationship, and he swears he’s not looking for one. But when he’s sent to Boston to answer a cry for help from another pack, he’s drawn into a mess of fae bargains centered around a selkie who Wade instantly becomes obsessed with.
Riordan Maguire is struggling to keep his selkie clan out of the clutches of a fae lord who will do anything to take over their territory. Partnering with the Boston god pack means coming face-to-face with the first person he’s ever wanted to willingly give his sealskin. Too bad Wade isn’t local and is something altogether strange that Riordan isn’t sure he can trust.
Amidst a growing danger in the streets and Boston Harbor, Wade and Riordan are desperate to find a way to keep everyone safe. For bargains are dangerous things to break, but so are hearts. Wade isn’t willing to shatter either of theirs in a race against time that could see Riordan torn from him forever.

Fantastic
So glade Wade got a story, hope there is more.
Fantastic addition to a great series. Interesting and enjoyable story that matches the previous stories in the series. Gary did a superb job with the narration.

Dragons, selkies, fae and a million cannoli
This was my first book by this author and I couldn't resist the allure of a horde-loving dragon shifter and a struggling selkie clan, so even though I'd not read any other books in the Soulbound Universe I dove right in. I must admit, it was a challenge at times - particularly in the beginning when a million characters are being thrown at you - because the book so firmly sits within an established world that isn't always fully explained because it's presumed the reader has read what came before (and it sounds like a LOT - a world-altering war perhaps? Even after finishing Secondhand Skin I'm still not sure, because although the book relies heavily on what's come before, the main storyline of this book stands alone and it's superb). I fell totally in love with food-obsessed dragon Wade and fiercely protective selkie Riordan and all their friends and family. It's a busy, complex plot in a chaotically complex magical world that's superbly realised, so the romantic elements are secondary to the main plot whilst still driving lots of it - a great balance for paranormal books to my mind! It's non-stop action, magic, and shape-shifting, featuring treacherous fae, meddling gods and godlike creatures, and a storyline full of secrets, sweetness and revelations. The audio is pacy, brilliantly acted with delightful character accents.

The story Wade deserved
I was excited when I saw snack dragon Wade was getting his own story and without a doubt it lived up to my hopes for it. Hailey Turner as always gives us the perfect blend of character focus and action focus. I love how we got to see how Wade grew from when we first met him.
Narration from Gary Furlong was spot on (as always!).

I really enjoyed this!
4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
This was the second book I've listened to in the Soulbound Universe and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Once again the narrator, Gary Furlong, did a great job bringing the characters to life and I love the world Hailey Turner has created and will be reading the Soulbound series sometime in the future.
I loved Wade and his sassy confidence and fun nature, though he knows when to be serious and can be very focused. Riordan has a lot on his shoulders especially now his sister's selkie coat has been stolen and he and his clan are in danger. I enjoyed Wade and Riordan and their chemistry and loved watching them become mates, giving each other the trust and affection they needed.
Wade comes to Boston to help a pack and gets drawn into assisting Riordan when they figure out they have the same enemy. I enjoyed the magic, shifters and all the other aspects of this fantasy world. A lot is going on and a lot of action and I was keen to keep listening to see how it all played out.
Though I haven't yet read the Soulbound series, I did listen to Resurrection Reprise the first Soulbound Universe book in which I initially felt I was missing a lot of background story but just like in that book I was able to piece it together and enjoy the story. You would have more of an understanding of the universe and characters if you'd read the series, but I do feel this can stand alone.
A really enjoyable fantasy novel to listen to.

I enjoyed the story
Secondhand Skin is my first book by this author. It's about a dragon and a selkie. I do think it can be read as a standalone book, but it does lack information of the larger universe. It does mention events from the past, but if I had read the other books beforehand, I would have a deeper understanding of the characters. On the other hand, I am now hooked and want to get to know the rest of this universe.
I enjoyed the writing style of this wonderful story. The universe was explained clearly and the characters were well drawn.
Riordan is fighting a threat that involves his sister and his clan. Wade has come as support to fight an enemy. This happens to be the same enemy that Riordan has. Riordan has created a safe haven for Selkies and he is very protective of his siblings and his clan. Wade and Riordan have been attracted to each other since they first met and respect each other greatly. Wade feels very protective of Riordan. He is also a man who is comfortable with himself.
I found the story entertaining. I liked the magic, the fighting, the shifters, the great chemistry and overall world building. There is a lot of action and interactions. I loved when Wade was being sarcastic.
I listened to the audiobook and it was narrated by Gary Furlong. He did a brilliant job. He chose an appropriate pace and I thought he nailed the characters very well. I always knew which character was speaking and I enjoyed that the narrator read with such variety.

My favorite dragon gets his HEA
I have LOVED Wade from the first time I met him as a secondary character in Patrick and Jono’s epic battle to save the world. The teenage dragon with the tragic past and who ate everything in sight just pulled at my heartstrings.
Fast forward a bit. The world has been saved. Wade has moved into an apartment of his own. He’s God pack in New York City. He’s sitting pretty. Except the Boston pack needs help and, of course, Wade answers that call. When he meets Riordan, his life spins on its axis and things are never the same again.
Riordan has a problem – his sister’s skin has been stolen. For a selkie that way leads only to pain and destruction. So Riodan must get it back. But that involves dealing with the fae – and that never goes well. When Wade arrives to help, Riordan knows there’s something unique about this man who eats continuously, acts a little different, and whose scales randomly appear.
Neither man expected love. But both found it. Life’s not simple. Even if they manage to get the skin back, Riordan is tied to the Boston pack and Wade is family in NYC. I hoped they would work it out and because Hailey Turner writes wonderful romances, I was right.
Finally, I have to mention Gary Furlong. Brilliant. I love his narration of this series and he gave me the perfect Wade and the amazing Riordan. This is a must listen and listening to previous books is not required. Fun…but not required. Enjoy!

Secondhand Skin is the best thing ever!! I love that we finally get Wade’s book!! Now he is more confident and mature, his never ending supplies of snacks and his actitud makes this a fantastic story! After everything he went through he deserves someone who adores him. Wade was just amazing, the way he handles the problems around him and how he can help others and never gives up, He and Riordan together they were so sweet!! Our hungry dragon found love!! The action scenes a were so good and Gary Furlong wow!! He did an amazing job narrating this book!

Perfect story for Wade!
Fans of the Soulbound universe have been waiting for this book since we first met Wade towards the beginning and Secondhand Skin does not disappoint!
I loved this from start to finish and it is packed with everything I love about these books and characters - action, mystery, entertainment, relationship drama, paranormal and human worlds together. Wade's personality comes across perfectly and reminds me of why we love him.
Here he meets Riordan when Wade is sent to Boston to help sort a missing pack alpha which evolves into so much more than anyone would have thought. I think Wade actually grows up a bit here as he is away from his family and has to deal with everything, though he still has their money to spend, and meeting Riordan, even under such tough circumstances, is the icing on the cake. With everything that Wade has been through, he deserves to find that one meant just for him. Riordan is facing having to give up either his sister or his selkie clan to the one trying to take over Boston but meeting Wade brings a brightness to his life that he hasn't experienced in quite a while. The young man is baffling at times, especially considering the amount of food he can pack away, but he's also charming, seemingly fearless and a truly caring person.
A fantastic paranormal urban fantasy that has highs and lows throughout, bringing two meant for each other together even though they live miles apart. Action and suspense keeps the reader/listener on their toes and it's an amazingly satisfying end to Wade's story.
I am so happy that Gary is back to narrate for this! He give's Wades character the perfect amount of snark and charm to get away with anything but still brings gravity and emotion to the important moments.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Wade finds his love...at last
I am sure I won't be alone among Soulbound aficionados when I say how eagerly I have waited to see Wade get his own book and his own love. I remember when we first met Wade as a wounded captive, and I have greatly enjoyed watching him grow and develop. I have enjoyed his snark, his occasional bratty disobedience, and his endless appetite. He has been comic relief during some of the darkest Soulbound times, and - yeah - I love seeing him eat bad guys. This story is an exciting and heart-pounding adventure with some new faces, but also plenty of well-known friends and enemies. Since I have read all the related books, I can't say for sure whether this one works as a standalone, but I personally think it would be hard to get the full flavor of Wade without knowing his history from the other books. Just my opinion, YMMV. Either way, this is a fun book, and not to be missed.
The narration by Gary Furlong is superb. I am always amazed how easily those complex names roll off his tongue. Maybe he practices a lot, but it SOUNDS effortless. It makes listening a true pleasure.
I received a free copy of the audio and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
