Summary

The Bourne Deception picks up where The Bourne Sanction left off. Jason Bourne's nemesis, Arkadin, is still hot on his trail, and the two continue their struggle, reversing roles of hunter and hunted.

When Bourne is ambushed and badly wounded, he fakes his death and goes into hiding. In safety, he takes on a new identity, and begins a mission to find out who tried to assassinate him. Jason begins to question who he really is, how much of him is tied up in the Bourne identity, and what he would become if that was suddenly taken away from him.

Series Needs numbering

My only criticism would be that I was not able to work out which sequence to listen to the stories, I managed to listen to them the wrong way around. Didn't spoil it too much, but it covered why parts of the sequel didn't ring any bells. Generally still a good story though.

The story only gets better

Jason Bourne finds out more about himself and although the story seems a little long, I was captivated right till the end.

Excellent!

This book was a lot more entertaining and much more exciting, than most of the past books I have read. Either way, exciting and once again, full of gripping mayhem and intense drama.

Tedious

Almost impossible to follow the details as this book jumps around and Bourne just seems to be a supporting character now.

doesn't fit the format of the franchise well

I really didn't enjoy this book, I thought there was lots wrong with it. Bourne has always been portrayed as a scientificly deadly phenomenon. Here we see him as a spiritually driven, minor player. For the amount of shootings and beatings he takes, he seems a semi amateur. There was more action and story about the other characters, some of which I found boring and some unbelievable. It was a bit like when a film franchise doesnt recognise when to finish, and keeps flogging a dead horse, but in a book. Wouldn't personally recommend it.
