By his 18th birthday David Millar was living and racing in France, sleeping in rented rooms, tipped to be the next English-speaking Tour winner. A year later he'd realised the dream and signed a professional contract. He perhaps lived the high life a little too enthusiastically - he broke his heel in a fall from a roof after too much drink and before long the pressure to succeed had tipped over into doping.
Here, in a full and frank autobiography, David Millar recounts the story from the inside: he doped because 'cycling's drug culture was like white noise', and because of peer pressure. 'I doped for money and glory in order to guarantee the continuation of my status.' Five years on from his arrest, Millar is clean and reflective and holds nothing back in this account of his dark years.

Pretty good
Love listening too stoyies off cyclist on the 90s 2000s armstrong fiesta hamilton chaptar 12 says 1988 i think it meant 1998 when david was 22 well all cucylist who had success all on epo but very good story

Excellent
Gritty thought provoking and honest. A great book about a great cyclist. Much to ponder on. I hope similar magnificent talents are better supported in the current era.

Great Book and Fantastic Narrator
Easily one of the best sports autobiographies I have read or listened to. David Millar is very articulate and the book is well written and structured, not amateurish like some autobiographies. Also features one of the best narrators.

Wow what a story
This is a brilliant look back in cycling history and understand what really went on. David Miller attempt s to sort out the issues and make a cleaner future .. fantastic read 👍

Insightful and entertaining
At times the book felt slightly self serving and righteous, successfully differentiating himself from the doping riders he vilifies throughout. However, the book was a great condensed chronology of his career and the cycling world as it was then (and perhaps is still is now). There is no question David was an excellent rider and an equally great writer.

Fascinating reality of cycling
Well written… very interesting.. I was impressed with Millar’s way he expressed his self loathing and sadness - the way he analysed his life choices... not preaching or pity me … I would recommend this to anyone who loves any sports.

Amazing book!
David Millar makes a Frank intelligent and amazing life story here. I particularly like his early days of racing. Best book I have ever read on the pro cycling scene.
