About this listen
Plump, grumpy, slumped on the couch, and going nowhere fast at age 16, Phil Gaimon began riding a bicycle with the grand ambition of shedding a few pounds before going off to college. He soon fell into racing and discovered he was a natural, riding his way into a pro contract after just one season despite utter ignorance of a century of cycling etiquette. Now, in his book Pro Cycling on $10 a Day, Phil brings the full powers of his wit to tell his story.
Presented here as a guide - and a warning - to aspiring racers who dream of joining the professional racing circus, Phil's adventures in road rash serve as a hilarious and cautionary tale of frustrating team directors and broken promises. Phil's education in the ways of the peloton, his discouraging negotiations for a better contract, his endless miles crisscrossing America in pursuit of race wins, and his conviction that somewhere just around the corner lies the ticket to the big time fuel this tale of hope and ambition from one of cycling's best story-tellers.
Pro Cycling on $10 a Day chronicles the racer's daily lot of blood-soaked bandages, sleazy motels, cheap food, and overflowing toilets. But it also celebrates the true beauty of the sport and the worth of the journey, proving in the end that even among the narrow ranks of world-class professional cycling, there will always be room for a hard-working outsider.

Phil really does thrill
Phil Gaimon takes us on the long, hard road to the top of professional cycling. Phil tells it as it is in a wonderfully unfiltered manner. Recommended! if

A great look at the sport and what it's like to try to make it to the big leagues! The humour is matched by the stark honesty. Highly recommended!!

Absolutely brilliant. Great insight. Funny.
This is written with grit, humour and most of all a genuine honesty that transcends from there to here. It simply is a wonderful thing!

A window into professional road cycling you won’t get anywhere else
Really enjoyed the pace of the book, Phil’s story is great, lots of struggles, friends and bike racing. Some grim times for Phil are punctuated with his self deprecating humour. If you are into cycling or want to read a good sports biography this is the one for you. The narrator is really easy to listen to as well

Superb Alternative Cyclist's Story
Very interesting and entertaining story of a lower echelon cycling pro roughing it and toughing it out on the USA pro circuit. Whereas most of us cyclists dream of making a living cycling, listening to someone who only just made a living is food for thought. Superbly told story of life in rubbish hotels, racing at the sharp if not sharpest end and the characters involved.

An insight into the backside of pro cycling
Phil Gaimon was good but no star. This book is an ramble through the travails of someone trying to turn their talent into a living in a cut throat sport that has a poor commercial model. That he kept persevering and made it - albeit briefly - is testament that one needs stamina both mentally and physically to achieve one's goals

A great listen for cycling fans and non-fans alike
Any additional comments?
I am not a cyclist myself, and only have a casual interest in the sport, however having listened to The Secret Race I was looking for another book on cycling. This definitely hit the spot. Phil Gaimon's anecdotes are a perfect blend of inspiring, funny and unusual to keep the reader drawn into the book throughout.

a good listen 👂
Was nice to listen to a book that wasn't based around the dining of the industry/sport and more towards the actual brutal business/sport at heart.
enjoyed it all the way with funny anecdotes and likes throughout my only negative was the strange headers to each chapter, if that's what they were.
worth a listen for any cycling fan
