Summary
Welcome to Devil’s Crossing.
Here monsters don’t hide in the shadows. They aren’t made of myth and magic either. Normal men are the things that go bump in the night, and I am the most dangerous of them all.
I am vengeance wrapped in a pretty package, but you can call me Sin, everyone else does. I’m a ghost made of flesh and blood. Legally, I don’t exist. Sold into slavery as a child, I exist as nothing more than a weapon, bringing death where the boss of our underground syndicate directs me.
Until the night Raven walks into the moonlight. She haunts me with her innocent beauty, showing me the life I’ll never have. One where blood isn’t caked under my nails, and hiding bodies wasn’t one of the top skills on my resume.
She shouldn’t be here. She’s too pure for the evil in this house, but she belongs here more than I do. After all, she’s the princess, and this is her father’s kingdom. He stole my identity, my future, and someday he’ll take my life.
Before he does, I’ll take something from him. Her.
I might be bad for her, but her father’s world is worse. I’m exactly who she needs to escape it.
Unless I break her first.

Romantic Suspense
Pretty Monsters by Kimberly Carrillo is a dark romantic suspense that I listened to on audio narrated by Nathaniel Gray and Phillipa Miller. This is the first book in the Pretty Monsters Trilogy.
This is the first book of Kimberly's that I have read, and it won't be my last. I really enjoyed the push and pull between Sin and Raven. Their relationship is extremely messy. I can't wait to see how it will out play out over the course of the series.
The book ended on a great cliffhanger. I can't wait for the next book in the series Perfect Sin to be released on audio so I can get more of their story.
Nathaniel and Phillipa did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you're looking for a romantic suspense.

Plot-twists
Pretty Monsters, the first book in the Pretty Monsters Trilogy, is a new adult romantic suspense with dark themes and a brother's best friend trope. The book is wonderfully written and a great start to the trilogy. The main characters, Sin, Lucien, and Raven, were well-constructed, relatable, and intriguing. The trio make a daring escape from Damien Blackthorne, a ruthless criminal politician with a long reach within the criminal underbelly. Sin, Blackthorne's slave and his hitman is the only hope Lucien and Raven have to escape their brutal father's relentless prostitute.
Their journey to freedom is paved with danger, suspense, forbidden romance, conflict, drama, angst, and unexpected twists. The story is very unpredictable, especially, when considering some of the choices Sin and Raven make. The secondary characters are introduced mid-way, and some, like Ford, are definitely more interesting than others.
Overall, Pretty Monster was a great listen; it kept me entertained and I enjoyed Nathaniel Gray and Phillipa Miller's narration. They both did a fantastic job portraying the cast and bringing Carrillo's words to life. I recommend this audiobook to those who enjoy new adult romance with suspense, angst, and damage.

This story pulls you in from the first chapter and doesn’t let up!
Raven Blackthorne is the daughter of an evil man- a crime lord running for governor to further cement his power and brutality. Raven has been controlled and monitored her whole life. When she finally returns home after a long retinue of boarding schools and surveillance, her father plans to sell her in marriage in order to form a formidable political alliance. Sin is a young man with no name and no identity. Sold Damien Blackthorne as a young boy, Sin has no memory and no recollection of his parents. He is a slave and a killer, trained to act ruthlessly and without thought when dispatching the Blackthorne enemies. But Sin has a conscience and a heart, and so does Lucien, Raven’s brother. When they find out what’s about to happen to Raven, Sin and Lucien spirit her away and go on the run. They meet a brave group of young adults, who under their college veneer, are damaged yet strong and ready to help out. But danger is always close, and Raven and Sin discover it’s not just circumstance pulling them together. They feel longing, lust, and love- if they can grab it before it’s too late. This book is really good- I found myself listening for hours without realizing how fast the time was slipping by. It ends on a cliff-hanger, but the next books are out and ready to enjoy. I can’t wait to start book 2!

Captivating!
This is the first installment in the Pretty Monsters Trilogy, a dark romance. Sin and Raven's story is intense, raw, enthralling, and passionate, filled with mystery, secrets, and twists and turns. The world building is fascinating. The supporting characters are great. Nathaniel Gray and Phillipa Miller did a great job bringing these characters and this story to life. The story ends with a cliffhanger, and I am looking forward to listening to Perfect Sin, the next installment in the series.

SIN!!!
Holy wow!! Sin and Raven were so much more than I expected! I was reeled in from the start and couldn't get enough!
The drama, the angst, the action.. it was so good!
These two had an instant connection and it was wonderful watching them navigate the connection/attraction/feelings, especially with their pasts.
I loved watching Sin grow! It was amazing to see him learn how to navigate a normal healthy life.
That cliffhanger though, that was intense!
Nathaniel Gray and Phillipa Miller did fantastic!

Revenge, love, and redemption
This book is a captivating story of dark romance that kept me hooked from start to finish. It follows the journey of Sin, a lethal enforcer with a troubled past, and Raven, an innocent beauty who gets caught up in her father's sinister world. The story is a thrilling mix of danger and desire, exploring the complex relationship between Sin and Raven. Sin is torn between his deadly nature and his protective instincts towards Raven, which adds depth to their relationship. The narrative masterfully delves into themes of revenge, love, and redemption, set in a world where the real monsters are human. The narrators, Nathaniel Gray and Phillipa Miller have done an incredible job of bringing the characters of Sin and Raven to life. Gray's portrayal of Sin perfectly captures his complexity as a character, while Miller's rendition of Raven conveys her innocence and strength with equal prowess. Together, they navigate the intense themes of dark romance, danger, and desire, making the characters' tumultuous relationship even more compelling. Their interpretation of this gripping tale of vengeance, love, and redemption is utterly absorbing, keeping the listener engaged and eager to hear what happens next.
