About this listen
Didn’t get the love you desire from your parents? Still craving for their approval?
From a young age, we try to impress our parents and make them happy. We behave ourselves and stay out of trouble. We study and work hard to make our parents proud. We did everything we can to please our parents but yet it’s never enough. They still treat us the same. Why is it so difficult to get our parents to love us?
Children long for their parents love. They want to be loved and accepted for who they are. But wait a minute...we are adults now. We are no longer children. Why are we still craving for our parents’ approval?
No matter how old you are, whenever you are with parents, you automatically become a kid again, and your parents will play their roles. Your relationship with your parents often stays the same. Since you can’t change your parents, the only way to improve your relationship with your parents is to change yourself.
Be your own parent.
If you are constantly longing for love from someone else such as your parents, partner, or friends, you might want to revisit your childhood. As children, we didn’t receive the love we desire from our parents. So we are still seeking someone to fulfill this void in us. The truth is we have the capacity to love ourselves. We don’t have to wait for someone else to give us the affirmations and validations we need. Changing your parents or hoping they will treat you differently will only leave you disappointed, frustrated, and hurt.
The purpose of this book is to help you learn how to love yourself and be your own parent. What your parents failed to do for you in the past, you can do it for yourself now.
In this book, you’ll learn:
- The dynamics of a parent-child relationship
- How your childhood might have affected your adult life
- Why is it difficult to change your parents
- How to grow your inner parent
- How to heal your inner child and take care of its needs
- The different protective mechanisms you have adopted subconsciously that prevent you from loving yourself
Parent Yourself Again is a simple book for self-reflection and self-exploration. If you want a better relationship with yourself and your parents, listen to this book. Download to get started today!

Not sure!
Didn't resonate with me - cultural differences probably. Some pearls in it though. Felt the author was helping himself talk through his problems rather than me.

A great insight on how to parent your adult self
This was an easy read that came in my life just at the right time. Especially the last 2 chapters were so helpful. I recommend it to anyone struggling with childhood parental trauma.

A must for doing internal work.
An easy listen, would highly recommend this to people who struggle with negative self talk and internal conflicts. It’s not a book that gives solutions per se, however it definitely helps to open one’s eyes to one’s own thoughts and behaviours and where they come from.

great book but some flaws
great advice wonderfully written and narrated BUT this is not great advice for everyone. This is for people who have had mild to moderate trouble with their parents. Apart from the inner work described here which I would highly recommend many people ALSO need to establish firm boundaries (boundaries are not discussed in this book) if the parents keep hurting, intereferring or bullying them or even cut them out completely if they are a really destructive force for your own sanity. The book advises that cutting parents out completely will only make you bitter. Not necessarily so, for many people it's the only way to move on, then they are no subjected to the abuse particularly if the abuse was that bad. Moreover, it is up to the individual to make the right choice for themselves. Clearly the author has only experienced a certain level of abuse if he can conclude breaking away is not an option at all. I don't believe in black and white thinking either you should or shouldn't do something, it's up to the individual or their circumstances.

Don't waste your money or time.
A completely useless book. Just one guys biography bracketed by the words love your hurt inner child, forgive your parents, parent yourself. Absolutely no advice or instructions on what to do. This guy has not even had a difficult childhood to overcome. The mantra is be the parent you would have liked your parents to be, but no advice on how to do that. It is the equivalent of reading a book called, Build a rocket and explore space, which only consists of the advice that the best way to build a rocket and explore space is...to build a rocket and then explore space... yes it is unfortunate that no one told you how to build a rocket and explore space...but the people who should have told you had no one to tell them. So forgive them and build the rocket you wished they had told you about. Then you will be free to explore space and as a sign of your growth take them with you. Out of this world advice and wisdom.
