Summary
The conflict between Palestine and Israel is one of the most highly publicized and bitter struggles in history. In this accessible and stimulating Very Short Introduction, Martin Bunton clearly explains the history of the problem, reducing it to its very essence - a modern territorial contest between two nations and one geographical territory.
Adopting a fresh and original approach, each section covers a 20-year span, to highlight the historical complexity of the conflict throughout successive decades. Each chapter starts with an examination of the relationships among people and events that marked particular years as historical moments in the evolution of the conflict, including the 1897 Basle Congress; the 1917 Balfour Declaration and British occupation of Palestine; and the 1947 UN Partition Plan and the war for Palestine.
Providing a clear and fair exploration of the main issues, Bunton explores not only the historical basis of the conflict, but also looks at how and why partition has been so difficult and how efforts to restore peace continue today.

Well balanced overview of the history of this troubled area
Not knowing much about the history of this area, I found this book to give me a balanced view of the history that brought us to where we are today (2013). One can only regret that both sides have made so many strategic mistakes, and that the far right elements on both sides have been so successful and botching up the peace process.

Succinct summary of Arab-Israeli conflict up to 2013
Nicely structured around key events in chronological order. Brought out the big points about those events clearly. Short at four hours. But I wish it hadn't stopped at 2013 and missed tumultuous episodes that have happened since

Actual Title: A Very Biased Introduction
For those who are not knowledgeable about the topic, this account leaves out a considerable amount of evidence that is not favourable to the Palestinian cause while containing incorrect information, or at least misleading information, that paints the Israeli struggle in a bad light. It is not the impartial book that I was hoping to use for teaching purposes. Usually this series presents first class introductions to topics, but not in this case.
