Summary

Being a normal teenager is hard. For Chance Fortunato, former demon’s apprentice and reforming warlock, it’s almost impossible. On the outs with Shade, his alpha werewolf girlfriend, behind on his magickal studies and still hunted by the Conclave, Chance thinks his life can’t get any worse. But when an empath named Dani asks him to find her missing girlfriend, Chance’s life suddenly spirals out of his control.

Caught by the Conclave, he finds himself facing a Trial by Ordeal. To save himself and his new mentor Dr. Corwyn, Chance must find the stolen Maxilla Asini, a powerful sword that can change the balance of power between the magi and the forces of the Nine Hells. As he searches for the Maxilla and continues his search for the missing girl, he discovers a sinister link between Dani’s abducted girlfriend, the disappearances of other teens in New Essex, and the politics of the local vampire coven.

Caught between multiple forces, Chance soon discovers that his only hope may be the missing Maxilla. With the forces of both good and evil aligned against him, will a bad attitude, the help of his friends, and a little faith be enough to help Chance beat the biggest challenge of his life?

Fantastic fantasy full of heart

What a refreshing change. The antidote to JK Rowling and the famous five school of fantasy writing. The heroes have heart and arcs the villains are authentically evil. The book is very well researched and I was amused to find characters with the names as a nod towards such luminaries as Chomsky and Krishnamurti.

Chance’s story evolves perfectly

A fantastic follow on, kept me interested throughout as the story built to a crescendo. Looking forward to the next.

Fun

Basically teenage angst but with magic, vampires, demons and a werewolf girlfriend. Chance giving attitude to beings he should probably run screaming from is definitely fun 😂

great second installment, but has it's flaws.

The second book picks up pretty much at the end of the first. great.
The story develops well, and so do the characters for the most part. I have come to accept the authors method of over description of the female form is probably for the elder teen age group more than adult audiences.
my only other issue with this is the ending seems crushed into twenty or so minutes. it was worthy of more.
the narrator still performs well throughout and I had got through this in a day.

Good read

Based in the world of fantasy, legends and fiction, it's skilled writing is brought to life. Leaving an impression to see the series to its conclusion.

A Satisfying Story

I believe that this story has a lot of potential. Certainly unique and it delves into magic using a different point of view. Recommended

Good book

The voices was a sometimes hard to know whom was talking but otherwise they were perfect. The story is good but not something I would listen to with my parents around

KAZ🇬🇧😃 Umm 🤔!!

The thing I don't get is at the start of the book it say's there 15-16 yr's old but then there's this stuff about riding motorcycles & being in love that is just unbelievable for the age of the main character's Doesn't gel for me The storyline is ok narration is pretty good as well it's just I keep getting hung up on the age again & again so I'm reflecting that with my low score sadly What's with all the pent up sexual crap 💩 as well & Chance is alway's bloody CRYING 😭 I've never known a teenager boy blubbering so much grow a backbone you wimp 😳😳
