Summary

Take a deep breath and immerse yourself in this stunning new novella from number one best-selling author Joanne Harris.

When you can find me an acre of land,

Every sage grows merry in time,

Between the ocean and the sand

Then will you be united again.

(Inspired by The Child Ballads 2 & 19)

So begins a beautiful and tragic quest as a heartbroken mother sets out to save her lost daughter, through the realms of the real, of dream and even into the underworld itself.

But determination alone is not enough. For to save something precious, she must give up something precious, be it a song, a memory, or her freedom itself....

Deeply sad and beautiful

I thought, as I listened to this book, perhaps you shouldn't listen to it if you are grieving or depressed in any way.
It is both beautifully thought provoking and deeply sad., but not suitable for anyone who is vulnerable emotionally as it could be quite triggering.

Pure bliss

I started this book with great anticipation. , but I had to listen to it in the quite of the morning in bed with a coffee . The more I heard the more I enjoyed it . It’s a story to stretch your mind. , make you check facts. . It’s really brilliant . It’s pure escapism. I loved it.

Wonderful.

Not only is the story mesmerising and so well told, but the narration is brilliant. The book is read instead of acted and the voice carries a gentle questioning inflection throughout that adds wonder and charm.

beautiful but??

lots of gorgeous language and imagery, but the main character is dull, and it's got 2 troupes I dislike: memory loss/amnesia and "is it real, is it not" I like playing with memory and reality, but felt this novel did it in a way I've seen many times before.

lots of great ideas with weak plot and characters.
