Summary
When I was growing up I always had a fascination with the gods of every culture. From the Celtic Scathach to the Norse god of thunder Thor to ancient Egypt and the amazing lengths people went to in trying to keep deities like Anubis happy. In this guide, we introduce the main gods from Norse Mythology along with their interpretations in modern-day entertainment.

A modern day look at the Norse gods
This is a very interesting overview of each god portrayed in the Marvel movies of today. It lists their quirks and behaviours as well as their relationship to one another.
Great narration by Christopher Knight.

Excellent intro to Norse Gods - then and now
‘Norse Mythology: An Introduction to the Gods’ by the History Nerds is an excellent book. Given that the original myths/legends were told as part of an oral tradition, there does tend to be some variation in the stories – and the interpretations once written down. Somewhat unsurprisingly, there are also a variety of modern-day interpretations that have made it into the Marvel comic books and onto the screen.
There are two things that I find really appealing:
1. It is a ‘potted’ account – i.e. covering the salient points but not being overburdening on the mind or too dry and dusty.
2. It brings everything up-to-date by including the modern-day interpretations – the largest section of the book being about Thor and then there is quite a bit dedicated to Loki.
I was drawn to this book because I am interested in Norse Mythology and the adding of the modern-day interpretations made it absolutely fascinating, but I do think it makes for a rather good study aid as well.
Christopher Knight does a great job with the narration. A very enjoyable listen.
