Summary

Lacey Spears made international headlines in January 2015, when she was charged with the "depraved mind" murder of her five-year-old son, Garnett. Prosecutors alleged that the 27-year-old mother had poisoned him with high concentrations of salt through his stomach tube.

To the outside world, Lacey had seemed like the perfect mother, regularly posting dramatic updates on her son's harrowing medical problems. But in reality, Lacey was a textbook case of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. From the time he was an infant, she deliberately made Garnett sick to elicit sympathy from medical professionals, as well as her hundreds of followers on Facebook and other social media. When a Westchester County jury found her guilty of killing Garnett in April 2015, she was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.

Using Lacey's own never-before-seen Facebook, Twitter, and blog posts, an exclusive prison interview with Lacey herself, as well as interviews with her family and the three police investigators who broke the case, My Sweet Angel gives the definitive account of this extraordinary case that shocked the world.

Definately

This story was never going to be an easy listen, as the turn iof events were harrowing. But the author delivers an excellent account, of the lacey spears story. Highly detailed, emotive and captivating. And for me, the narrator was the icing on the cake, Shaun grindell alongside kevin pierce, are wonderful narrators.

Very sad

The reason why I give the story only 1 star ⭐️ is simply because this terrible incident shouldn't have happened. I really hope this evil woman never has a moments peace. But even in the epilogue she can't give remorse. This book, must teach others to realise how important, doctors, hospitals, social services all communicate with each other to make sure this never happens again. Not one day, or one child should suffer at the hands that should protect them. Thankfully the police did a full in depth, hard at times investigation. Especially now that social media has taken over this world. The solicitors summed it up perfectly, this unfortunately was never about this sweet boy. It was always about his disgusting attention seeking ill mother. A very hard moving account, presented in the best tasteful way you can tell such a truth. It's not a story, because it's not made up, and it has no happy ending for a beautiful boy.

Such a sad thing to listen too, I am glad this was free and no money was taken for telling his story

When you hear of things like this you try to look at every thing before judging but the way this has been written and told you’d have to be utterly delusional to think this was in any fault of the doctors or hospital and it was with 100% certainty that cruel woman.

She very clearly wanted the attention & when she wasn’t getting it she pushed that little boys body to the limits in order to gain it. I don’t fully think she had the intentions to kill him but I do know she wanted them to “see” he was sick and to gain that sympathy and to be believed in it & it went to far. The fact that she googled about salt and sodium before hand though does leave me questioning wether it was intentional though.

The girl should spend a life imprisonment for taking that little boys life. She shouldn’t be getting interviews or able to make any money or gain any more attention from it. Anyone who stands behind her after all that evidence is just as guilty as she is.

The fact he asked for seconds a lot of the time when in company made me feel so sad because we know she wasn’t feeding him right so that he would be sick, that poor boy must of relished being in other peoples care and company knowing he can be who he should be and eat what he wants. It’s just the saddest ending for him.

Credit to the author for making sure every little detail and interview was included so everyone can see the full picture and not just what she wanted people to see

heartbreaking read

It's hard to believe this is a true story, it's told well and was heartbreaking hearing what this little boy went through.

Emotional

This was very hard to listen to but very interesting at the same time to see how Lacy was able to manipulate people in her life. She seemed to live in this Fantasy world and so heart breaking that she put her poor Childs short life in such pain on regular intervals. The fact that she remained in denial that she hurt him is so scary and I hope that she never gets a chance to get near a child ever again as she is a very scary person. She needs to be kept in a Medical facility where she is monitored for the rest of her life as you would not trust her not to hurt another child. Heart breaking is how I would describe this very sad story

harrowing story

this is an incredibly sad story but it needed to be heard. I thought that the narrative was well constructed but it got a little repetitive towards the end. I wasn't wild about the narrator at the beginning but got used to him.
