Summary

Music Theory for Guitarists, Volume 2 continues where volume 1 in the series left off, showing you more guitar theory concepts you need to gain an even greater understanding of the guitar fretboard. Use this knowledge to become a better improviser, soloist, singer-songwriter or composer, and all round musician! This audiobook (with optional workbook and backing tracks downloadable from the author's website) is perfect for any player from beginner to advanced who wants to better understand crucial guitar theory topics and quickly and easily bring their music theory skills near pro-level.

Lessons cover:

  • How to easily learn all the notes on your guitar fretboard
  • How to make basic chord progressions sound amazing with ‘sus’ and ‘add9’ chords—includes practical examples and chord shapes!
  • ‘Seventh chords’: learn the theory and how to use them for richer, more colorful sounds in your music
  • The Circle of Fifths: better understand chord progressions and songs, key signatures, blues progressions and more!
  • Basic mode theory. Learn mode structure, mode names, when to use modes, and choosing which one will work the best. Avoid the confusion most players experience when it comes to the topic of modes!
  • Plus lessons on compound intervals, key signatures, triad chord inversions, the Roman numeral ‘system’ for understanding chord progressions, seventh chord ‘families’ and much more!

On the author's website, you can find a free optional download pack containing printable workbook featuring all the musical examples referenced in the audio lessons, quiz questions, backing tracks and more!

updated review

8th January - Further to my initial review. James updated the file last week and chapter 9 is now correct. Great book. Recommended.

I wrote this review on Amazon also.

Chapter 11 is missing. There is a repeat of Chapter 9 instead.

Otherwise very good. I'll update this review if the audiobook is corrected.
