Summary
What if we can make ourselves, our communities, and our planet healthier all at the same time by moving our bodies more?
Movement Matters is a collection of essays in which biomechanist Katy Bowman continues her groundbreaking investigation of the mechanics of our sedentary culture and the profound potential of human movement. Here she widens her message and invites us to consider our personal relationship with sedentarism, privilege, and nature. Bowman explores:
- How convenience often means less movement, not more time
- The missing movement nutrients in our food
- How to include more nature in education
- The impact of adding movement to permaculture and ecological models
- Our need for vitamin community and group movement
Unapologetically direct, often hilarious, and always compassionate, Movement Matters demonstrates that human movement is powerful and important, and that living a movement-filled life is perhaps the most joyful and efficient way to transform your body, community, and world.

Be prepared to be stimulated to move think stack
A robust challenge to all that we take for granted, all that we mindlessly do and are conditioned to in westernised culture in terms of the way we use, and the many ways we don't use our bodies and the wider impact of our choices either way. Great critical thinking out loud. Katy is a voice in the desert of sedentary existence crying out for us to pay attention to to the course we are headed on and inspiring any who have ears to hear to change tack.
I am enjoying my own journey in re-educating my movement with Katy and combined with my natural tendency to rebel against restrictive norms (I like change) she proves to be a thought provoking guide and my life is enriched. Thanks Katy.
Love the out-takes inclusion.

Well researched, informative and useful work that gives a more complete understanding of movement, and continues the path to repair our broken relationships.

Really worth a listen, I've been recommending it
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes and I have, it is a real get you thinking book and great conversation starter
What did you like best about this story?
It's not a story so to speak more a collection of essays, but it really got me thinking and her ideas are very well explained
What about Katy Bowman’s performance did you like?
She's engaging and I know think every audio book should have a gag reel at the end!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
yes but I'll prob relisten to some bits since I fairly raced through it
Any additional comments?
Definitely worth a listen, might just change how you look at the world

Another amazing and thought provoking book
I have read / listened to all of Katy's books and although this one is quite different, it was another fantastic book. There are no exercises to follow in this book but many suggestions as to how we can 'stack our lives' to move more and generally accomplish more whilst limiting the effect of our choices on the planet and all those that inhabit it.
I am sure that I will listen to this several times, something that I have only ever done once before and that was for 'Move Your DNA'
Katy again reads the book herself which I think enhances the messages.

A deep insight into human movement
Such an interesting book & much deeper than I thought it was going to be, Katy makes you think about the impact of certain issues to a far greater degree than I thought possible & broadens your scope with the ramifications of scientific studies or movement problems in today's society.
I'll have to listen to it again for more of it to sink in but she's written & narrated an absolutely superb book.

Waffle
I've read half of this and switched off. I've found it to be a load of waffle, discussing the very obvious, with a little interesting science along the way. I guess if you're just starting off on a journey of healthier living, this might serve as a good introduction.
