Summary
One little girl.
Mirabelle’s mother loves her. She’s her ‘little doll’. Mother dresses her, paints her face, and plaits her hair. But as Mirabelle grows, the dresses no longer fit quite as well, the face paint no longer looks quite so pretty. And Mother isn’t happy.
Two little girls.
On Mirabelle’s 13th birthday, Mother arrives home with a present – a new sister, 5-year-old Clarabelle, who Mother has rescued from the outside world.
But Mother only needs one.
As it dawns on Mirabelle that there is a new ‘little doll’ in her house, she also realizes that her life isn’t what she thought it was. And that dolls often end up on the scrap heap…

Overall - ok
The story was interesting but dragged a bit the last few chapters.
The narrator voice was a bit irritating, the main character is 12yrs old but sounds like a posh pensioner.

A gripping read
I worry with books written from the perspectives of children/teens as they can be a bit too childlike, but Davies manages to write her in a way that is enjoyable for adults while still showing her age.
A few times in the book i thought “surely this must be the conclusion” and thought it could get tired with so much action happening throughout but it keeps you drawn in! There is always something happening, no dilly dallying with the plot.
Highly recommend, finished the book in less than 24 hours! The narration was also excellent.

Not a proper book listener but this…WOW
I don’t usually use audible for ‘proper books’ as I’m more of a biography listener but something about this book caught my eye on suggestions. I took a chance and wow! I was hooked from the first chapter until the last! To the point where I was making excuses to go out in my car to listen to a bit more!! Haha it is executed perfectly by the narrator Sarah Lambie and the story is gripping until the end which genuinely (as a parent) put a real lump in my throat! Abby Davies take a bow! Loved it!

Wow!!
This is such a gripping book. To start with I wasn't sure as it seemed a bit slow but about a third of the way through it really picks up the pace with lots of twists and turns. The narrator did an excellent job too.

Gripping, terrifying, and addictive
I've listened to 2-3 audiobooks a week for 4 years, and I think this might be my favourite so far - or at least up in the top 3! The story is spellbinding, and the narration is perfect. I usually listen for a while with the sleep timer on as I drift off to sleep, and always have to rewind and find my place the next day. With this one, I was still awake and listening at 4am, desperate to find out what would happen next. The writing is the sort that sucks you right in and keeps you hooked, and the narrator honestly made me feel like I was watching a film - and a really frightening film, at that. I woke my partner up at one point because I jumped so violently! Brilliant listening experience, particularly after many months of not having written a review because the books have been unremarkable. Highly recommended!

Incredible
Captivating from the very first sentence - amazingly written and a stellar performance from the reader, Mother Loves Me is a jolting thriller that literally had me audibly exclaim in shock at certain points. Harrowing and detailed, this is one that'll linger in your brain box for a long while.

A Gripping Read
Every now and then a book comes along which impresses you with a gripping plot and excellent writing...well this is one of those books. The author has very skilfully described the horrors of this tale and the narrator is superb. Gritty, chilling and thoroughly absorbing.
