Summary

It's a profile, like all the others on the online dating site. But as NYPD Detective Kat Donovan focuses on the accompanying picture, she feels her whole world explode, as emotions she's ignored for decades come crashing down on her. Staring back at her is her ex-fiancé Jeff, the man who shattered her heart 18 years ago. Kat feels a spark, wondering if this might be the moment when past tragedies recede and a new world opens up to her.

But when she reaches out to the man in the profile, her reawakened hope quickly darkens into suspicion and then terror as an unspeakable conspiracy comes to light, in which monsters prey upon the most vulnerable. As Kat's hope for a second chance with Jeff grows more and more elusive, she is consumed by an investigation that challenges her feelings about everyone she ever loved - her former fiancé, her mother, and even her father, whose cruel murder so long ago has never been fully explained.

With lives on the line, including her own, Kat must venture deeper into the darkness than she ever has before, and discover if she has the strength to survive what she finds there. Read by Kerry Shale

Good Twist!

I've read a few Harlan Coben novels and enjoyed them. This audio novel was a good listen, interesting characters, good twist. Some of the narrator's voices were a bit dubious but that's a personal response, he does set the emotion etc well.
Recommend it :-)

harrowing but couldn't stop listening.

this was Harlem Coben at his best. The villains were threatening and frightening. The heroine damaged but brave. It held my attention and had me hooked.

Amazing story, terrible narrator

The story is great (as always from Coben) really gripping. Only downside is the terrible narration, he makes pretty much all the men sound like douche bags, and most of them sound the same too so it can get confusing which character is which. I’ve read other peoples reviews saying the same but I really wanted to listen to the story so I thought I’d try it anyway, if you can ignore the terrible narrator and focus on the story it’s okay.

Characters

Characters sounded like something out the Simpsons. Storyline would suit a teenager . Performance was very mediocre.

Love this stuff!

Harlan Coben never lets me down.
I look forward to the weaving of the plot strands as he guides us to the end. Kerry Shale us always the flawless narrator.

Best book I have listened to in a long time

Some gripping parts in the book which keep you listening. The narration of a few characters is quite poor, but does get better in the last third of the book. Definitely worth a listen!

Couldn't stop listening

This is another superb book by Harlan Coben. The man is a genius! This story is well written and the plot just keeps you hooked.
This audio book kept me taking the long route home so that I could keep on listening to it.
As usual Kerry Shale does a really good job of reading the storey and bringing the correctors to life.
