About this listen
Life isn’t always responsible.
After his mother tragically dies and his deadbeat father goes off the rails, 19-year-old Micky is left to care for his disabled little brother. Juggling college, a dead-end job, and Flynn’s special needs means Micky has to put his bad-boy past behind him and be the responsible adult to keep his brother out of care. He doesn't have time for anything else in his life.
Still scarred from a past relationship that went bad, Dan’s not looking to complicate his life. Everything tells him he should stay away from Micky, but he’s powerless in the face of his overwhelming attraction to his newest staff member. Especially when he begins to peel off Micky's layers to reveal the true man beneath the façade.
As their attraction builds, revealing more of themselves to one another, each is faced with a stark question: Can Micky allow himself to follow his heart, and can Dan risk falling in love with someone so tempestuous?
Misdemeanor is the first book in the Responsible Adult trilogy and is a rerelease of the previously published version by Pride. It has been edited with new content added.
Author note: Potential triggers include references to suicide, physical assault on a minor, criminal behavior, and bullying of a disabled child.

Great first installment in the series
The narration, to me, by Piers Ryman was really good. I really liked his way of narrating the book and I can't wait to hear what he does with the other two books in the series.
Heads up for listeners, this book ends on a cliffhanger and does not reach a hea until book three, but it certainly is worth the wait.
The author, C.F. White did an excellent job in creating this totally believable story where you sometimes just want to shake up characters and institutions to help out and open their eyes.
It is gritty, but friendship and love shine through.
Micky is up against it due to his family history and where he was born and 'raised'.He tries to leave the past behind and create a better life for himself and his little brother Flynn , who has Williams syndrome, and does not see the world as we see it, for who he is responsible. Dan is a man who got an English degree and wants to be a teacher, but for convenience is still working in a posh supermarket as a section manager. This is when Micky and Dan meet.
I highly recommend these e-books/ audiobooks , if I could give more stars I would happily do so. This is one of the best series I have read and listened to in a while.

Gritty but great romance!
I just finished the audiobook and am still quite flashed. One thing first: It is the first volume of a trilogy and this ends with a cliffhanger. The audiobook has me simply captivated and now I'm sitting there and already eagerly waiting for the next volume, but fortunately it will be released very soon.
The story is gritty, authentic with bright spots of light and it is heartwarming and emotional. A fantastic audiobook that I listened to in just two days.
Mickey didn't have an easy childhood and as a teenager he got into trouble with the law more than once. But everything changes when he has to be there for his brother Flynn, whom he loves with all his heart.
The author has created Mickey's character in a profound and authentic way and it was nice to witness his development. But far too often Mickey is prejudged because of his backstory. But I loved Mickey from the first pages. That he can't get out of his skin from one moment to the next is understandable and makes Mickey all the more authentic.
Looking for a job, he is hired by manager Dan. Dan is the exact opposite of Mickey. He is calm and level-headed, while Mickey is short-tempered and spiky. But Dan also has a history and yet there is the enormous attraction between the two. Can he dare to fall in love again?
Flynn, with his special needs, is responsible for the bright spots in this story. He exudes such a zest for life that it warmed my heart. Of course, Mickey's life doesn't get any easier, but he loves Flynn and is willing to do anything to give him a better future. Which is not so easy, because it is very uncertain if Mickey would get custody given his past history. And so he tries to hide from the authorities that his parents are not there. Until a terrible incident in the schoolyard reshuffles the cards, and not necessarily for the better.
Pierce Ryman is a great narrator. He brought the characters to life, you could hear the emotions very well and he always hit the right note. The book itself is fantastic, but Pierce Ryman makes it even better with his amazing interpretation. He is the perfect choice for this emotional story!
Highly recommended!

Emotional and intense
I'm often drawn in by an emotional story and this one has just about broken my heart. it's intense, challenging and sadly full of injustice. You'll rage at the system that's party line is all about second chances but really never ever forgets your mistakes and poor Micky seems to always be seen as a criminal or delinquent from the wrong side of the tracks even when he is trying to do everything he possibly can to take care of his brother and keep him with him.
Now Flynn is just an angel, full of innocence and love and truly the heart of the story. I couldn't love the little guy more. While his condition means he has issues and no stranger danger he is just the sweetest and is easily Micky's reason for keeping on.
I am broken and raging at a flawed system and I hope beyond hope that Micky gets to keep Flynn and rest, once he's fought his way through to "full adult" and gets his HEA with Dan.
This story will break your heart and make you cry but also fill you with rays of hope that people can change and love can help you heal.

Blown away by this gritty romance!
Wow, I loved the hard edge to this! With an alcoholic father and disabled younger brother, 19 yo Mickey struggles to juggle home and school, let alone fit in a part time job or a love life. When Mickey applies for a job at the supermarket Dan manages, Dan is able to see past the tough exterior and police record, but being pulled into Mickey’s chaotic, closeted world can be frustrating and dangerous. CF White always writes strong, believable characters and the contrast between Dan’s gentleness, Mickey’s flailing strength, and his brother Flynn’s lovely innocence was outstanding! The plot whizzes along as Mickey deals with one catastrophe after another, valiantly trying to do the right thing while being judged on his past. Piers Ryman is such an excellent audio narrator, his working-class accents and emotional range kept me glued to the action throughout. Like all CF White’s trilogies, there’s a cliffhanger in this first book, with plenty of twists and turns to come before the HEA and I can’t wait for more!

Totally blown away!
I swear that CF White is trying to do me in, either by breaking my heart or getting me locked up for randomly laughing and snorting while listening to the audio for her books. I also blame Piers Ryman for the life he breathes so naturally into the characters. This series is a new one to me, and I love listening to audio thanks to this killer combo of author and narrator, what a pairing!
The story is one which has so many facets and ways it could’ve gone, but yet I was rooting totally for Micky as he struggled with his past and the need to care for his younger brother, Flynn who has his own complex needs brought about from Williams Syndrome. I was totally on his side from the moment he first appeared and his fledgling relationship with Dan just had to succeed.
Even though I know the author has first-hand experience with Williams Syndrome so was able to plough personal experience into the book (which shows), I admit hearing the details of just how it affects the child and those who love and care for them made it all so much more real, and also made my admiration for her and her family grow so much more. Then when you wrap personal experience up tight in the sensitivity shown by Piers in the way Flynn was brought to life by him is a testament to Pier’s narration skills and human empathy. There were times when he really, REALLY tugged on my heart strings with his portrayal of Flynn - thanks for almost making me cry!
Then of course we have a colourful cast of characters, every one has it’s place and own distinct voice and mannerisms, and I adore each and every one of them.
I was so caught up in needing and wanting to know more I ended this book and started with taking any kind of breather.

Wow, how had I missed this series
I saw this book and thought, what a cute cover. So, thinking it was a new book by the author, I started reading it. How had I missed this series? I will never know, but I love it. Now I have also listened to this on audio. I thought I loved this series in book form but Listening to it brought Micky and Dan to life. Little Flynn, I'm in deeper love with him than I was before.
The characters are so true-life it's as if you are reading about people you know or your neighbours. The characters are well written, and even though the MC has a temper and a criminal past, you have to love him. Micky the MC has a younger brother Flynn who has special needs, a beautiful, exceptionally well-written character who tugs at your heartstrings right the way through the book.
Dan, Micky's new boss, is a mixed character, loving, patient and charming, a solid soul but hurt before, but he sees something within Micky that calls to him.
I love how the author develops the characters, their pasts not defining who they are but aiding them to better themselves. The story develops well, and I have to say I loved every part, even the details that brought tears to me. I still couldn't put it down. If anyone deserves a HEA, it's these three, but they don't get it in this book. It's an open ender.
The story is tough love, sweet, establishment hating, disabled child bullying, abuse from parents, suicide.
The narration by Piers Ryman was impeccable, clean, easy to listen to and did a great job of distinguishing between the characters. An absolute joy to listen to.
