More secrets and even more questions
This is book four in this unusual series and you definitely need to have read or listened to the previous books to know what is going, especially with all the secrets going around. Oh but if you do get this one then be prepared to get the next book because it is left on a cliff hanger and I really hope we don't have to wait long before finding out what happens. Mina is a spell binder which means when a book loses the words from its pages they come to live causing all sorts of trouble and it's Mina's job to stop the magic escaping. Previously the books have been obvious and well known stories, even if you haven't read them yourself but I had no clue what book everything escaped from in this one, which although it didn't effect the story did mean it lost a tad bit of the enjoyment. As everybody was at summer camp The spell binding took a bit of a backseat in this adventure (although the magic and danger is still very much there) and it was more about the secrets Mina could learn about her mother's deaths, you do learn somethings but a lot of questions still get left unanswered. There is also a lot of teenage drama to liven up the story. I can't wait to see if we get more answers in the next book.
With the Larkspur's Academy under repairs the students head to Moon Lake for summer camp. Mina hopes to learn how to swim and maybe after the vision more about her mother's death which happened at the lake. Instead when strange things start to happen she is afraid that a book needs her magic to stop it hurting one of her friends. Can Mina ignore her attraction to fellow rival spell binder Gavin to find the missing book.
I liked the narrator. She used her voice well to make the story not only enjoyable but also come alive in its own way.
