Summary

From the author of the New York Times bestselling King’s Dark Tidings series comes a prequel novel set in that world.

Wesson is still years from becoming a man when an immense darkness stirs within his core. The sinister power bursts free during a confrontation with an old enemy, and Wesson’s tranquil life is left in tatters.

Forced to flee a murderous mob, Wesson stumbles onto a tumultuous path where he must confront the destructive power he has awakened. He must learn control over the power he wields or risk being consumed by it. As he wrestles with his training, an assassin stalks his every move. This new enemy is sent by a mysterious foe, one who will force Wesson to choose between the kindness in his heart and the seductive power in his soul.

Mage of No Renown can be enjoyed as a standalone, but be warned: it will likely lead you into Free The Darkness.

YES!!!!

Flipping loved it. Nick P smashed the narration as always. Seriously, why he hasn’t read aloud every book in existence is beyond me. Also Kel K has smashed this story out of the park. It is exactly what was needed before the next instalment of Kings Dark Tidings. Thank you

love it

I read al the Kings dark tidings book and waited for this one a long time.
I love that we get a glimpse of the history of journeyman Wessen. Now it is more clear where he and his aversion of his powers come from.
We learn how powerful he really is and why he is so determined to do goed. I enjoy every minute of this book.

Amazing

I love Wesson. He was an awesome character before this book but has just made me want to listen to all the KDT books again.

Mists enjoyable start to return to the start of the series with Rez, and the others a very pleasant surprise to enjoy

As always enjoyable

Kel Kade weaves the plot and the characters flawlessly and you automatically slip into this realm. I love this series and this just gives the depth of character that Wesson was missing. I rereading the series to then read the new book can’t wait!

Well done!

I've waited 4 years for anything to do with the KDT world and I enjoyed reading this addition, it definitely adds depth to Wessen's character and explains a few things about his back story but I feel that instead of a whole book about Wessen, it could've been many short stories adding depth of many of the KDT characters. I am looking forward to KDT 5.

Backstory to make you want to re-read

Internal moral struggles are best in book form. This does fill in gaps in a complex storyline, and I get curious to reread the series to which this is a backstory, knowing the inner struggle of the gentle but involuntarily violent mage.

really fun read. action packed with plenty of interesting characters and world building. intriguing magic system that seems relatively deep with feeling forced.
