Summary
He was my best friend, my protector, the beating of my heart, the blaze that set my body on fire, the boy I adored, the man I loved, and the person I couldn’t live without.
For me, it took one press of his lips on mine to understand loving Gabriel Romero was my only option. He would forever be my only option. So I had no choice. It was my turn to protect him, even if it ripped our lives apart.

Emotional and compelling
I devoured this audiobook in record time because honestly I could not stop listening to it.
This is another prequel to the Delta security series.
This time we learn how Gabriel and Lyric meet and become friends.
This is a beautiful story of friendship that throughout the years becomes something so much more Love doesn't even describe the words that these two feel for one another.
Gabriel's mother works for Lyric's father and that is how they become friends,Gabriels always being Lyric's protector right from her being a 3 year old toddler..he took care of her.
This book jumps from year to year giving glimpses into the development of their relationship as innocent children..to their teen years and beyond.
They start to notice eachother in a way that is more than friendly.
But it's not all plain sailing as Lyric's home life is not the best and she has to endure an absent vacant father and evil step mothers.
Gabriel is sent away with his mother...which doesn't prevent them seeing eachother..But Gabriel joins the Navy and things begin to change.
This is an emotional and heart felt captivating story and I cannot wait to listen to their full story of what happens next in Reaper which will be book 2 in this series.
The Narration is SUPERB
M.K.Blackwood and Eric Bryan Moore are excellent you can really feel the emotions with their voices..Their change in accents and male and female voices are brillaint...I was just entranced and they give such a fabulous performance. They are perfect.
My heart is aching after listening to this story and I desperately need closure ..Let me just say River is an ASSHOLE..Arghhhh !!
D.L.Lane's writing is exquisite and the attention to detail is mesmorising,I love her writing style..
Loved this story.

Wonderfully Heartfelt & Compelling! Fabulous🎧📚🎧
D.L. Lane pens another fabulous novel set in her “Delta Security” series, a contemporary coming of age romance that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire book. This book is the beginning of Gabriel “Real” Romano and Lyric Whitfield’s story, a story that takes you through the years, starting with how they came into each other’s lives up to the present day. Gabriel aka Reaper was one of my favorite characters in “Cowboy” the first book of the series and I have looked forward to hearing his story. I knew his story was going to be something special and that first chapter “Monsters” hit me straight in the heart. Gabriel’s mom was Lyric’s live-in nanny, and despite being only eight years old, he became her protector. Lyric’s dad was too busy to pay her any mind, so his mom brought her up. She and Gabriel spent a lot of time together, which neither minded. Lyric idolized him and crushed on him, but he looked at her and treated her as if she was his younger sister. That is until she gets older and he sees her for the woman she has become. I loved watching these two grow into their own over the years and finally into the loving couple they were meant to be. Lyric is in college and Gabriel leaves college to join the Navy. Everything changes when someone from their past returns with a vengeance, someone and something neither saw coming. Threats are made and Lyric makes what she thinks is a lifesaving decision, a decision that alters their lives. And that ending, wow. Reapers team members at Delta Security have his back, but it is Tinsley who does the right thing and lets him know who was looking for him, but does he want to be found? The writing and plotting of this book is fantastic, as is the world building and character development. That ending leaves you wanting more and I am looking forward to finding out more about both Reaper and Lyric, and what is going on with Lyric. D.L. Lane, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧And for the amazing narration, Eric Bryan Moore and M.K. Blackwood continue to do a fabulous job bringing these characters and story to life. They understand who these characters are, giving each a voice that fits that character perfectly, accents and all, and are believable in every role they play. Moore nails it as Gabriel, from the younger years to the present, and Blackwood does the same for Lyric. They set the perfect tone for the story, capture all the characters’ emotions and have you feeling every single one. Their artistic talent and versatility truly shined in this book and their performance enhanced this already fantastic story to another level. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another exceptional listen.

Enticing prequel
Loved this backstory/prequel to Lyric and Gabriel's story. It was sweet watching their love develop over the years. Very little spice when there was a romantic scene, but not a problem. Definitely could feel the emotion. Narration was excellent.

Gabriel and Lyric
I loved the story of Lyric and Gabriel. They grew up together, there were sad moments, but there were also funny moments and lots of love. Until something tragic happened.
Too bad the audiobook was so short, I would have liked to know more about Gabriel and Lyric. I loved Gabriel from the beginning. He is Lyric's brother and protector. Lyric is also incredibly likeable and she does what she thinks is right.
An entertaining and exciting book that quickly hooked me. I hope the next book "Reaper" won't be long in coming.
I have to give a huge compliment to the two narrators M.K. Blackwood and Eric Bryan Moore because they did an outstanding narration! The way they voiced young Lyric and young Gabriel! Wonderfully fitting! The two were just perfect!
I highly recommend this series

Gabriel & Lyric - Prologue
I’m not too sure what to say in this review. I just want MORE!!! Not Moore, although yeah I want more of him too. But more Delta Security, more on their love story, more on the other characters, just more more more!!!
Their story, how it all begins is tragically beautiful. Cooper’s story was so good I fell in love with this team of former Navy Seal’s. Now with Jessie happy with Tin I can’t wait to listen to Gabe’s road to Happy Ever After.
MK Blackwood and Eric Bryan Moore were the perfect narrators for Lyric and Gabriel.
