About this listen

Get this 32-hour box set of pure kickass military sci-fi - a thrill ride combining space opera and first contact!

Terminal Lance Lucky Lee Savage likes his life. Sure, doing PT hungover is a pain, but no one can dodge responsibility like he can - or sweet-talk the cooks into giving out double rations.

But when Lucky’s ambushed behind enemy lines and left for dead, along with a handful of privates so boot they actually respect his authority, he has to step up, manage the ambitions of his foul-mouthed AI, and figure out what’s tearing a hole in the fabric of space-time before everything goes haywire.

Lucky wouldn’t bet on the universe. One thing he will bet on: Somewhere, somehow, somebody is going to pay for all this. And he is going to be right there to pull the trigger.

If you like Aliens and Firefly, you'll love this funny, gritty, and endlessly entertaining series!

Would make a great action movie, not a great book

The books are fine, a little repetitive, but there are continuity errors and plot holes that are frustrating. Actions sequences are formulaic, which as a listener is a bit dull, but in a movie would be fine. Imagine a book version of John wick, there is only so many ways to describe the fight scenes. Well read.

Nothing

Written far to complicated. Bounces around I'm every direction so you have to keep tracking back to figure out what's going on. Not an easy listen at and requires 100% focus on it to keep track. Would probably recommend reading rather than listening.

Great Find!

I am new to Joshua James' books.
Bought this particular series because Mark Boyett has recommended it.
As usual his narration is excellent!
This series has action, interesting worlds/Aliens and is altogether good fun.
Now pls excuse me while I download the next books in the series!

A gripping saga, with the odd excessively gory bit

Good story
Engaging, twisting, random saga that keeps you engaged and guessing at every step of the story.
Just beware there are a few passages where I think they went a little over the top on gory violence, sections the the book would suffer to lose, but apart from that thoroughly enjoyable for an adult.

Space marines

Good story sometimes it feels a little bit the same in the different books but overall good way to kill some time.

Some cool concepts, but also dumb.

overall I'd say that this is a reasonably entertaining adventure but unexceptional in most ways.
One interesting thing that stands out most about the story is the ubiquitous use of drones and A.I. for support. This is used relatively well, but mostly as a dwindling resource.
One bad thing that stands out is that the character writing is poor. Male marines are clumsy, often incompetent, meat heads. All female characters are generically super competent badasses, of which the writer feels the need to invent a new one or two, every book.
The title character's nickname is Lucky which is apt. He gets through the majority of problems either through blind luck, or his internal 'special' A.I. saves him. The A I. has a female super competent persona which spends a lot of it's time mocking Lucky when it isn't saving him. There is also an angry psychotic male persona that takes control of lucky and puts him in a blood rage. This also diminishes the main characters agency.
Despite my complaints the books are entertaining, mostly because the voice acting is excellent.
I'm sure this book has an audience but I don't think I'm it and I won't be continuing with the series.
