Summary
‘What a story and what an inspirational human. Ed is a total legend.’ Joe Wicks
‘A life-affirming story . . . inspirational’ Tim Peake
As seen in the Daily Mail
From tragedy to triumph, one step at a time – an inspirational story of triumph over adversity against the odds
At just 28 years old, Ed Jackson was told he would never walk again. After a miscalculated dive into a pool, he suffered multiple cardiac arrests, a broken neck and a partially severed spinal cord. Lying paralysed in intensive care, the former rugby player knew his life would never be the same. But he wasn’t ready to give up hope.
Driven by relentless determination, Ed embarked on an incredible journey to independence. Millimetre by millimetre, he began to regain movement in his fingers and toes. Defying the expectations of even the most optimistic doctors, step by step, Ed began to walk again.
Fuelled by a renewed appreciation for life and a determination to help others suffering similar injuries to his own, Ed set his sights on a new challenge: mountaineering. Embarking on a gruelling climb to raise funds for a spinal unit in Kathmandu, Ed realises that, once again, the odds are stacked against him. Will he be able to overcome his own life-changing injury and transform others’ lives for the better?
Lucky is the story of how Ed faced the impossible when it seemed all hope was lost, and shows how you, too, can overcome the biggest challenges that life sends your way.
Lucky was a Sunday Times bestseller in the w/b August 9th 2021

Mind blowing, Motivating, Inspiring
What a book!
When this week was seeming a bit tough, I listened to this in bed as I lie awake at 5am. It wasn’t long before I was jumping out of bed to take some action.
As a coach, I know action is important, but we are all human and it’s easy to forget when you are in the midst of it.
Ed’s story has put a lot into perspective for me. It’s going on my top 10 inspiring books.

A good outlook a good book
After listening to an interview on itv with Ed I down loaded to listen to his story
Things he explained could only be told by first hand experience, but makes you the listener think about the situation
Hanging on and wanting to listen more, laughed at parts but then found myself crying as your recollection is so personal this book was a real, a thoughtful, showing kindness and acceptance of and very life changing accident
A book for someone that moans about the small things in life

An extraordinary story of optimism and courage
An extraordinary story of optimism & courage, as Ed Jackson shows us the true definition of tenacity, courage, endurance and mental strength as he tackles every athletes worst nightmare - paralysis.
I can’t recommend this book, his story, highly enough.

An inspiration to all
For someone who is for the time being able bodied this is a true insight to one of my fears, it is both scary, very real and I am left in awe of what the possibilities are when you are left with little choice. This is gripping, Ed is inspiring as is Lois, a power couple know how to make lemonade when given lemons!

personal, real and very dear to my heart
it's amazing that despite every SCI is unique in its way, the experience, emotions and feelings are always the same. i lost count how many times in the book I said I have been there or I felt that too or i know how that feels. even the dream you had, i lived it in every little detail and felt all the disappointment exactly as you did. keep up the amazing work pal.

This book has changed our family
Our son was born with an SCI and he is now 8 years old. As parents we are doing our best to protect and nurture him whilst giving him the opportunity to experience an extraordinary life. Ed’s candid and very vulnerable account of what the internal and external challenges are of living with an SCI has helped us to better understand what our son is going through and for us to reframe our own approach. It’s inspired us to keep pushing as a family to find a treatment to support his recovery. I understand a more about what he may be dealing with on those quite days - the frustrations he is feeling be that in trying to bend his leg or move a toe - and we are so grateful that although he may not always be able to articulate his feelings we now have an increased empathy and understanding with which we can listen and support with.
Thank you Ed, this made me laugh and get a lump in my throat but above all reinforced the hopes we have for our sons treatment and recovery! Your story has changed how we parent and as a result the way we as a family approach this journey.
