About this listen
Jack Long is enjoying a rare opportunity to spend an afternoon at the beach alone with his son, when tragedy strikes. Years of heartache follow, but Jack gradually rebuilds his life, eventually finding a measure of peace, until one day, a 12-year-old boy literally cycles into his life, and the nightmare begins again.
This is a story of love and loss which reminds us all to treasure what we have as we never know when it may be taken from us in an instant. It is also a story of hope and the realization that the ties of love form unbreakable bonds that can withstand the worst that life can throw at us. A moving story about a little boy and his dad, whose lives changed forever one sunny day at the beach.

Brilliant!
This is a brilliant story with engaging characters and is very skilfully written. Jack is at the beach with his 2 year old son Toby for some bonding time. On the way home he calls in for some milk at the shop and leaves Toby outside in his pushchair. When he comes out of the shop pushchair and little boy have disappeared. Despite a massive search Toby has vanished. Jack's wife blames him for the disappearance and later she takes drastic action leaving Jack on his own. Fast forward 10 years and Jack is living on a narrowboat when A 12 year old boy called Archie takes a liking to his dog, here starts a fantastic story of mystery and intrigue. Fast paced it almost takes your breath away. If ever a book deserved 10 stars then this is it. Maria Johnson's narration is absolutely superb with her multi voiced telling of a very dramatic story. Can't recommend highly enough.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the narrator and leave this honest review.
