About this listen

A lost colony planet, a perplexing murder, and a dogged homicide cop in this Audible Original story from best-selling author Larry Correia.

When the biggest colony ship in human history was sent to settle a paradise world, an accident hurtled it deep into uncharted space. A thousand light years from Earth, with no way home and no way to call for help, the colonists’ only hope for survival was the one barely habitable planet in range, a nightmare world they named Croatoan. Landing on the only five mountain peaks tall enough to rise above the lethal acid clouds, the settlers carved a civilization from the rock.

A hundred years later, Five Points has grown into a city of corruption and violence. With powerful corporations ruling the surface domes and criminal syndicates running the caverns below, murder is just the cost of doing business.

So when a Special Magistrate is found dissolving in a protein vat, it barely registers - until DCI Lutero Cade, the last honest cop in Five Points, catches the case. What he finds could threaten the colony’s very existence.

Or, at the very least, Cade himself.

Captivating Sci fi

One of the best short stories I heard on audible. Leaves you waiting for more about Lutero and the conspiracy.

"Lots of people die in Five Points every day."

This is an Audible Original, a dark detective S.F. book, with a free download available through the Audible Plus programme.

When an huge generation ship on it's way too Paradise instead is blown off track to a planet covered in lethal acid cloud, with no hope of ever going home, the colonists manage to build a home on and in the peaks of five mountains which rise above the cloud. Death, both natural and murderous, is frequent and the police rarely bother to investigate. But the discovery of the body of a highly placed official in a protein tank is unusual and DC I Lutero Cade, a cop with a violent background, takes the case and the story is told from his perspective throughout.
An intriguing story set in a bleak world and even bleaker society, well performed by Oliver Wyman. This is the first of an, of yet, two part series, both books each being only some two and a half hours long.
Recommended to all who enjoy science fiction murder mysteries set in faraway.inhospitable locations

A great short story

I absolutely loved this short story, there is no obvious link to the main series so you don't feel like you are being plopped in the middle of something. Fantastic narration by Oliver wyman. Hope to see more of this sub series.

So good it left me wanting more.

This shirt sci-fi story left me frustrated that it isn't longer. I enjoyed it so much and got into the story to such an extent that I was a bit annoyed when it was finished. I sure hope it gets picked up for a follow up.

I'm a huge Correia fan since recently reading the Forgotten Warrior series ( now one of my all time favourite fantasy series), so I was interested to see what he would do with a sci-fi story... I was not disappointed.

The story takes place on a distant planet colony that has been cut off from the rest of humanity for decades due to an unforseen mishap. A detective is called to investigate a murder in the poorest sector of the colony and uncovers a link that leads him to look at the highest ruling classes and opens some questions about the circumstances of how they came to end up on this distant planet.

In truth, the plot isn't exactly ground breaking or radical in any way, but it's execution is what puts it ahead of the competition. The dialogue is top notch and the main character is nicely fleshed out along the way.

just a fun read/listen.

The narrator is perfect for this book. He pulls of the hard-boiled, gritty detective with baggage extremely well. First class performance.

Quick and enjoyable

Despite it's short length this is a great little story that manages to flesh out the setting and deliver an enjoyable and action-packed murder-mystery tale. I see there's another book in this setting, and I'll definitely be checking it out based on this.

Part Malta's Falcon part Solent Green

Loved 'Gun Runner' but while this is listed as part of the same world its a very different hero. A ard bitten cop who does the right thing even amongst an indifferent corrupt system. Sam Spade with a bionic arm. looking forward to the sequel.
