Summary

Titus Cervianus is no ordinary soldier. And the Twenty Second is no ordinary legion...

Egypt, 25 BC. Titus Cervianus marches into the unknown as he and the Twenty Second Legion contend with the armies of the Bellatrix: the Warrior Queen of Kush. The Kushites and the Egyptians are united against the Roman presence in their lands—but there are complex political and military forces at work. Deep in the deserts, Cervianus and his comrades must brace themselves for a furious onslaught as they take on the might of the Bellatrix.

Great military fiction.

The writing is consistent with the first book and builds on the established characters.

Great Story; Narrator getting better.

First class story carrying on from Book one; great characters and superb knowledge and imagination from the writer.
Narrator improving. His tone of voice - slightly melancholic, suits the hero - a bright, gifted, but dispirited physician caught among the uninspiring dullards of humanity, although a number stand out also as worthy people.
The narrator only paused twice in mid sentence, in the wrong place - his major fault in the first book. I thought of giving him 4 stars but thought I'd wait for the next instalment to make sure this wasn't him on a good day. BUT DON'T LET THIS PUT YOU OFF, it's a cracking yarn. Mick the Hick😊

Warming to the series

I wasn’t entirely won over by the first of these books but I enjoyed this one. The characters are starting to develop and if the relationships between men are always mismatched like a 90s buddy movie then I can live with it.
