Summary
A twist of fate proves wildly explosive in New York Times bestselling author CD Reiss’s smart and sexy Hollywood romance about the cost of running from your past to get to your dreams.
Cutting all ties, Kayla Montgomery drives cross-country to Los Angeles. New start. New life. And an unexpected new job: assistant to Justin Beckett.
The Justin Beckett.
The boy band rebel with the cocky attitude and dreamy bed head who casts a spell over his fans and tests the patience of his handlers.
Now at the peak of Mount Adulthood, he has to build a clean-cut, movie star image. It’s in his contract. No partying. No attitude. No groupies.
To tie it together, he needs a normal girl.
Suddenly, Kayla’s swept up in Justin’s glamorous world, and his arms. But the most dizzying thing is Justin himself. Sweet, generous, reliable, and as eager to shed his past as Kayla is hers.
About that....
Those ties she thought she’d cut? They’ve followed her across the country with her secrets in tow, and they’re about to test Kayla’s courage, Justin’s loyalty, and a love that wasn’t part of the deal.

I really don’t get some of the reviews!
This is a great book, I was hesitant when I saw the review score but thought ‘what the hell, I’ll give it a try’ and I’m so glad I did, fun, easy going and just nice... ok so it’ll never win a noble prize for literature, but the rating it has on audible is just plain wrong in my view, this in my opinion is a 4.6 to 4.8 at least. I’ve sent back much higher ‘rated’ books because they were quite frankly dull or pretentious, none of them anywhere nearly as good as this, despite the difference in rating

Really enjoyed this
I received the audible through Kindleunlimited and had fairly low expectations. However I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it. Jaded Fashion designer Kayla has left her career in NY to join her sister and estranged father in LA. Thanks to Kayla having a new phone number, the interference of his grandmother Louise she runs into jaded pop star Justin and its irritation at first sight, pretty much for both of them. One thing leads to another and they end up in each other’s orbit and a connection forms.
There’s a lot going on in this relatively short story, both Justin and Kayla have stuff going on in their backstory, his being more obvious than hers although there are hints early on. What both of them have in common is that they have both been screwed by public perception, none of it deserved with respect to Kayla, and most of it undeserved when it comes to Justin. They have to decide whether what they have is worth taking on the others baggage.
It’s quite cliche in parts (the meet cute for example) but there are some quite serious subjects discussed along the way including drugs, #metoo, and the disadvantages of celebrity. I love Kayla, she’s straight, no nonsense and stands up for herself. Justin is a strange one in that at times he put his own career above the truth, but I think he grew as a character, and underneath all his cockiness you could see there was a good guy trying to get out, and to do the right thing. It’s not particularly angst ridden, but it’s not light and fluffy either, probably somewhere in between. I think in this one the hero is Kayla, who manages to save Justin, whilst at the same time doing the right thing for herself and her friends.

Fabulous.
I love everything that CD REISS writes and yhe audios that go with them. The plots are character driven, interesting and well developed characters at that which I find even more attractive. Emma Wilder and Joe Arden are at another level when it comes to barration, and this is no exception. As I said: fabulous!! 💖💖💖💖💖
