Summary

In the backcountry of Idaho, a tribe of men are hunting and killing with a dream of returning the world to an earlier time. A time when courage and prowess in the field determined a man's worth. A time when the strong took what they wanted, and the weak cowered in fear.

Mike Bryant has come to the wilderness to die. Tired of the trappings of modern life, his will to live has run out. But when he crosses paths with a group of warriors who challenge him, he suddenly finds purpose. Mike is no ordinary man. Frozen and given up for dead, an inner core of rage ignites a fury few have seen and lived.

Deep in the White Cloud mountains, a demon is awakening. The last son of the War God was forged in the storm of blood and fire. And now he's angry.

John Rambo anyone?

Decent enough if a wee bit unoriginal. Hints of Rambo first Blood with added cannibalism.

A little basic, but not bad

And enjoyable, but totally “by the numbers” adventure story of bad guys, hunting, people and the tables being turned.

Entertaining listen

I don’t finish a lot of Audible books because the story or narration are poor, but listened to the end of this one

Popcorn First Blood tale BUT ...

The story is very thin, there's no real challenges for the protagonist, there's no deep character backstories, but still I liked it. In particular, I liked the chatty style of writing, it was easy to listen to and it had a satisfying ending. The narration was okay at best. All the character voices sounded the same, with no attempt at deep voices, whiney voices, angry voices, authoritative voices etc. That didn't really put me off.
The BUT is because I detected, within the story, racist tropes about Arabs.
I then began to listen to another story by the same author and immediately realised he's a MAGA-supporting Trumpist. That book was apparently written before the Jan 6 insurrection but contains content (including defamatory attacks on decent politicians) which I found to be false and offensive. I couldn't review it because I stopped listening immediately. So, warning, this author is really only for MAGA supporters and he makes that clear in his writing. And that's why I have given this a lower rating,
Such a shame, because he has real talent.
