Summary

In Volume 45, it seems that Walt is fighting one battle after another with the mob.

First, Walt is dragged into the political arena to oppose a candidate for city council with ties to the Russian mob.

The moment that problem is resolved, Walt receives a frantic plea from Carmine Marchetti, the godfather of the Kansas City mafia, asking him to help fend off mobsters from Chicago who have come to take control of his operation.

Reluctantly, Walt agrees to help Carmine, unaware that his assistance will result in heart-wrenching tragedy for himself and his family.

Tissues at the ready

I did enjoy this book but boy need I use up a lot of tissues because of a major plot twist for this series, I still can't believe what happened and even at the end I was still waiting for a twist to say it wasn't true. Oh well. Like normal this story is made up of lots of different cases all involving Walt and his crazy friends. If you are a fan of this author then you will not be disappointed as all the gang is involved at some point. The story isn't as light hearted or as funny as normal because the author covers some serious situations such as the Black lives matter campaign, mob hits and an unexpected death, it still hurts now but all are something most people have to face in there lives, well except job hits and the author isn't afraid to tackle the hard stuff. I can't wait to see what the author has in store for Walt as he once again faces a new chapter in his life.
At his age the last thing Walt wants to do is come out of retirement and run for the city council job, especially as he has no interest in politics but when the opponent turns out to be abusive and have ties to the Russian mob, he has no choice he can't do that to the city he loves. Of course the opponent plays dirty. Who will win? Then an indecent sets off racial tension and Walt ends up owing the Kansas Mob boss Carmine a favour. He in turn asks Walt for a favour when an out of town mobster tries to takeover his turf but by helping Carmine has a knock on effect that has far out reaching consequence. Consequences that effect Walt himself.
George Kuch continues to be my voice of choice for Walt and his friends and at book 45 I hope the author has no plans to change him for somebody different because it just wouldn't work.
