Need to read others first

I did not read the previous 2 books in series as it said it was a standalone. However I got a bit lost at the start and just couldn't get into it. 2 hours in and I realised Dale wasn't a SEAL anymore and did something on the set of a show. The prologue was also confusing about mafia etc. But if you've read the previous ones it will probably make sense to you and therefore you'll already know background and characters better. I didn't fancy the previous 2 from their descriptions so gave up in the end.
