Summary
If you want to explore Jewish mysticism, then pay attention....
Jewish mysticism is a powerful study within the Jewish tradition. Rooted in antiquity and veiled in mystery until quite recently, Jewish mysticism has burst into the modern world in guises both illuminating and bewildering.
Throughout Jewish history, flashes of the light held within sacred texts have sparked the sages' inquisitive minds throughout the diaspora. Rising out of the ashes of the temples once standing in Jerusalem, the texts and theologies associated with Jewish mysticism have comforted and ecstatically raise those who have used their knowledge.
In this audiobook, we'll review key texts, including:
- Sefir ha Behir
- Sefir Yetzirah
- Ma'aseh Merkavah and the accompanying Heikhalot literature
But in examining these texts, we'll also delve into the historical contexts in which they were written and how they served as spiritual responses to the tribulations of the Jewish people, interpreted by those who wrote and disseminated them.
You’ll discover fascinating things along way:
- You'll meet some great sages, chief among them the father of Lurianic Kabbalah, Isaac Luria, his disciple Moses de Leon, and the great Moses Cordovero.
- You'll meet the sefirot and be introduced to their mysteries as the emanations of the divine.
- You'll see how spiritually powerful texts can be abused through popularization. This always concerned the Kabbalistic sages and is the reason for the traditionally limited transmission of Kabbalah.
This audiobook provides a detailed introduction to the fascinating world of Jewish mysticism and the community most closely associated with it.
Bring your curiosity and questions and open the door to the mysteries of this vibrant corner of the Jewish world.

spiritual experience after listen this audible.
I believe that there are, of course, things in this world that are mystical, that we won't understand, and mysterious things have occurred to me before; but they were something that could happen to anyone if there had been in my footwear, and open. But this was one of those intensely intimate experiences

introduction to Jewish mysticism Quite listen
Scholem's overview of the development of Jewish mysticism in general and Kabbalah, in particular, is magisterial. For those not familiar with Jewish history, some of the lectures may be ignorant, but this difficulty can also be a springboard for exploring more in Jewish history and religious development.

I enjoyed this book in its earlier substance and loved it then. This book is even better! Suggested it for anyone interested in a heart-centered approach to Jewish meditation and prayer.

The Best Starter
Kabbalah is one of those things that everyone seems to want to be part of and something that enjoys a high level of fashionability at the specific importance. While this is fabulous, it also means that there is a lot of rubbish out there with "Kabbalah" composed on it. For the beginner or the unusual, this can make receiving at the real thing a bit daunting and difficult.

Not at its best, but acceptable.
While the author seems to know about the topic, it is a weak job for someone who has studied Jewish mysticism. Possibly for someone who knows nothing, and wants to feel like they know, this work would be good. However, if used in conversation with someone who does know, it will be a failed attempt.

introduction to Jewish mysticism and Kabbalah--
the author's overview of the development of Jewish mysticism in general and Kabbalah, in particular, is masterful. For those not accustomed to Jewish history, some of the lectures may be dense, but this challenge can also be a springboard for exploring more in Jewish history and religious development.

"Major Trends in Jewish Mysticism
I found some points of specification a little offensive in union with Gnosticism, but this would not be an issue for the general, non-Gnostic reader. As such, it should not discourage you from listening to it. As a starting point, Scholem's "Major Trends in Jewish Mysticism" is unbeatable for both its educated approach and also for Scholem's ability to make it all right and absorbable. This is fantastic work and one worth taking.
