About this listen

Jackdaws by Ken Follett is an irresistible novel of the French Resistance, love, courage and revenge set in the Second World War, read by Emilia Fox, who expertly brings the story to life.

A Failed Mission

Two weeks before D-Day, the French Resistance try to destroy a telephone exchange vital to Nazi communications. Heavily defended, the mission fails disastrously.

A Daring Plan

With invasion looming, Flick Clairet, a British secret agent, proposes a daring but perilous new plan. She, along with an all-female team – the Jackdaws – will infiltrate and neutralize the exchange before Allied Forces land in France.

A Race Against Time

However, unbeknownst to Flick, Rommel has assigned a brilliant spy-catcher – Dieter Franck – to crush the French Resistance. And now Franck is closing in . . .

This is based on a true story split by the unintentionally hilarious accents employed in the narration.

Slow to begin and the narrator didn't help but totally changed as it went on. Emily Fox became very interesting and the book excellant!! Wonderful detail as usual and really brought home how brave people can be, working secretly to help save lives. Ken Gillett excellent as usual.

The narration was poor. She would be better performing romance novels. Very disappointing. The characters voices were almost laughable. Sam West or Jonathan Keeble would have been better

had the makings of another great Ken Follet story.

If i could give ten stars I would. Thoroughly gripping, realistic characters with immense courage: as shown by the real SOE heroes of WW2.
Thank you for writing this.

One of the best French Resistance/British SOE agent collaboration books I've read. Such a believable, well researched, fast paced spy thriller. These agents were so utterly brave to hurl themselves into the Lions den, so to speak.

Absolutely Superb!

I enjoyed this book, but i must admit it took me a while to become gripped. A 17 hour book that probably could have been shortented to about 12 without losing the plot. Emilia Fox narrated well and I felt she grew into the book as i did. I like this author and this is a good story. Just wish he'd get to the point a bit quicker sometimes. Nonetheless, It's worth downloading and if you like WW2, Secret Agent, particularly SOE stories, Then it should be on your must listen list.

A slow burner, but always intruging

I enjoyed this story, it was a little bit cheesy in parts, overall though it was enjoyable, in parts it was very brutal so be aware.
