Summary

More than one beautiful woman's hopes have been dashed on the rocky shoals of Jonathan Redmond's heart. With his riveting good looks and Redmond wealth and power, the world is his oyster - until an ultimatum from his father and a chilling gypsy prophecy send him hurtling headlong toward a fate he'll do anything to avoid: matrimony.

Intoxicating, elusive Thomasina de Ballesteros has the bloods of London at her feet. But none of them knows the real Tommy - the one with a shocking pedigree, a few too many secrets, and a healthy scorn for rakes like Jonathan.

She's everything Jonathan never wanted. But on one fateful midnight, he's drawn into Tommy's world of risk, danger...and a desire he'd never dreamed possible. And suddenly he's re-thinking everything...including the possibility that succumbing to prophecy might just mean surrendering to love.

Contains mature themes.

So sweet, and very different from the others imo!

I didn't expect to like Jonathan so much, but he is undoubtedly one of the most unique of the Pennyroyal Green men.... and in my opinion, in the vast literary universe of HR. Rakes and rogues are so often jaded, broken, damaged, etc... Jonathan might be rake-ish but is practically the furthest thing from a jaded gentleman and that was a wonderful change. There was something so earnest about him... Tommy was very much the same. I liked her utter comfort in her own skin that wasn't fueled by much more than a simple inate faith in herself as apposed to Evvie or Violet or Genevieve who aren't REALLY the confident creatures they make themselves out to be.

Jonathan proving everyone wrong was incredibly rewarding, and I was glad that JAL chose his story to resolve some of the issues that have been plaguing the families since book 1 and prepped for the final books. I think this is one of the more fully fleshed out books in the series . She really thought this one out and I loved it.

Justine Eyre made some very fun choices with her narration. Jonathan and Tommy are hilarious at times and so pleasantly and obviously younger than characters in the previous books which JE captures wonderfully. Argassey (sp?-this is the issue with only listening to books sometimes) when he freaks out about Tommy walking over to them at the salon made me laugh very, very loudly.

"Are you going to call out our lovemaking like a billiards game?" was one of my favourite lines, and it encapsulated the relationship perfectly.

Highly recommend as always.
