Summary

Growing up in the 1990s, twin brothers Nick and Simon are inseparable. They’ll do anything for each other. As Simon puts it, they are ‘one split in two’. But that bond turns into a curse when both become addicted to heroin and frequently undermine each other’s desperate attempts to get clean. Over a number of years, the boys and their family are thrown into emotional and financial chaos – until the terrible day when Nick pays the ultimate price for his addiction.

Featuring: Bamshad Abedi-Amin, Janice Acquah, Victor Alli, Josephine Arden, Scarlett Brookes, Jessica Dennis, Felicity Duncan, Owen Findlay, Emilia Fox, Matt Gavan, Tom Glenister, Chris Grahamson, Roger May, Nicholas Murchie, Harry Myers, Sarah Whitehouse and Josh Zaré.

Very resl

Initially, I wondered if I should keep listening. This account is one of the more real versions, of the catastrophic impact of addiction on a family & their lives. I found myself judging the mother & then found myself wondering if I was living her life...no place for judgement here. I loved it was a middle class educated family narrative. Drugs impact every class. Not so many books written from this perspective. I think this is well written, superbly acted & well worth the listen.

Well acted and profound!

As with all audible originals, this is superbly acted and narrated. Emilia Fox is a fantastic actress and Tom Glenister's portrayal of Simon is full of true emotion and feeling as the twin brother of NIck. As a twin myself I can understand the bond between them and how difficult it can be for others to comprehend this.
There are lots of special moments, but also some heart rending scenes that I wouldn't want any mother do experience. The true story depicts two youg adults spiralling into addiction and the mother's struggle to get them out of it.
A hard but very enjoyable listen about real issues that could potentially happen to any family.
The last 5 minutes are an interview with the real life people that this was about. Make sure you listen to this as it bought tears to my eyes.........

Brilliant Unexpected Gripping

One of my favourite audiobooks so far. Initially thought it was going to be the usual run of the mill books but this has had me in every state of emotion possible. Looking for next fantastic book?

been there, bought the t-shirt

very cliché, addiction is much more individual. Reality shows that more siblings would go in different directions, basic story is monotonous, sounds like someone has spoken to a few addicts, and replied with answer's that they thought the author wanted to hear.

A reality that cannot be heard enough!

I listened in three sittings only. A very emotional rollercoaster of a story, captured so well in audio.

A book that will open minds!
