About this listen
From the instant New York Times bestselling author of Fourth Wing, Rebecca Yarros, comes a sweeping romance about the sustained power of chance encounters.
When Izzy Astor gets on a plane to go home, she isn’t expecting much. It’s the usual holiday travel experience: busy, crowded, stressful.
Then she spots her seatmate, who is anything but ordinary. Nate Phelan sports dark hair, blue eyes, and a deliciously rugged charm that Izzy can’t resist. Their connection is undeniable. Izzy never believed in destiny before, but she does now.
Just ninety seconds after takeoff, their plane goes down in the Missouri River.
Their lives change. They change. Nate goes on to a career in the military while Izzy finds her way into politics. Despite a few chance encounters over the years, the timing never feels right.
Then comes a high-stakes reunion in Afghanistan, where Nate is tasked with protecting Izzy’s life.
He’ll do anything to keep her safe. And everything to win her heart.

“Yarros explores the horrors of war and the aftermath of traumatic experiences. Her authentic characters feel equally strong and vulnerable, and their will-they-won’t-they hits all the right notes…Readers are sure to be moved.” —Publishers Weekly
“An undeniable connection between two people amidst chaos intertwines to pack a satisfying emotional punch.” —Heidi McLaughlin, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author
“In the Likely Event is propulsive. It grips you from the moment Izzy and Nate lay eyes on each other and never lets you go. I couldn't stop reading, swooning, or letting my jaw drop with every twist and turn the story took. But you're always safe in Rebecca Yarros's hands.” —Ali Rosen, James Beard nominated host of Potluck with Ali

I was hooked!
I have to say the “Fourth wing” was the first book I ever read by Rebecca and I absolutely loved her writing style, so as soon as I found this book I knew I had to read it. The way she jumps back and forth between past and present is so effortless and easy to follow, and you can actually see the difference in the characters whenever she does this. The plot was entertaining and the characters actually had depth, which is something too many romance books are lacking nowadays. A really enjoyable read and highly recommend

I miss this book already
Every once in a while I’ll find a book that instantly clicks with me, this was that book. I read, and loved, Forth Wing and decided to delve deeper into Rebecca Yarros’ writing. This book is obviously miles away from Forth Wing thematically but the writing and characters are just as intriguing and captivating. Nate and Izzy not prefect but you will root for them to make it through. The time jumping keeps all mini stories fresh and builds over the book. Ultimately this is a good book, only criticism, could have been a good few chapters longer.
Teddy Hamilton, as always is on point with narration.

You may like this
I have enjoyed many of Rebecca Yarros military romances so was surprised when struggled to get on board with this one. It took me four attempts to finally get into the way in which Izzy & Nates story was told. I am pleased I stuck at it though
The story is told in the present with continually jumps back in time to previous events. So the historical story is told as the present story rolls forward. It was this skipping backwards and forwards that I found difficult didn't enjoy.
There was a bit of the emotional rollercoaster I have come to expect from Rebecca but it's impact wasn't as great as her other books as you knew where things were going as that's where the book started. So whilst I felt the story was very current - US pulling out of Afghanistan - it wasn't as strong as others I have read/listened to.
The development of the romance was a little unbelievable ( for two people so in love they spend a lot of time considering relationships with other people) but have to say the steamy bedroom scenes were on the mark.
But a five star performance is given by both narrators, with Teddy Hamilton being so easy to listen to. For his voice alone I may well listen to this book again.

My Guilty Pleasure!
Although Rebecca Yarros’ books are slightly cheesy, I have to admit I’m a fan. Who doesn’t like a will they won’t they love story to escape into. This is another of Yarros’s books that won’t win any Pulitzer Prizes but they’re certainly entertaining and keep you going back for more!

Amazing
There is no doubt that Rebecca Yarros is quite simply the master of military romance. In the Likely Event offers a different perspective though which is refreshing in itself.
Nate and Isabeau are simply amazing both together and apart and as a reader I actually 'felt' every time they were separated by time and circumstances.
Each of them though, knew without a doubt, that the other was their ride or die...They just had to admit it!
You can almost...almost come out the other side, unscathed and scar free. But, look out for low flying emotions to side swipe you when you least expect it, they're right around the corner.
An amazing tale of love, it's strength and it's amazing capacity to adapt.

A Wildly Epic 4.25 Star Romance!💘⭐️
A Wildly Epic 4.25 Star Romance!💘
In The Likely Event
By: Rebecca Yarros
Audiobook 🎧
Narrated by: Carly Robins, Teddy Hamilton
Length: 10 hrs and 30 mins
I thoroughly enjoyed this epic romance that spans a decade.
Meeting on a doomed flight, 18-year-old Izzy sits next to 19-year-old Nate. He's travelling to start 'Basic Training' in the forces, she's travelling back to her college after visiting her big sister. He saves her life.
A couple of years later, they bump into each other at a bar, completely by accident. It's the best thing to happen to them both, and they agree to stay in touch. It's not the right time for them to become something, so they stay friends. This carries on for years until it stops.🥺
I really did enjoy this book. I loved the timeline skips and different pov's. I didn't always understand Nates decisions, but he never lied or tried to hurt her. That reveal, right near the end, it made me tear up, I just didn't expect it at all.
Beautifully written.👏⭐️
