About this listen
‘The Alan Banks mystery-suspense novels are the best series on the market. Try one and tell me I'm wrong’ – Stephen King
Although the Inspector Banks novels can be listened to in any order, In A Dry Season is the tenth thrilling title in Peter Robinson's bestselling Yorkshire-set crime series.
A lost village. Past crimes. Present evil.
During a blistering summer, drought has depleted Thornfield Reservoir, uncovering the remains of a small village called Hobb's End – hidden from view for over forty years. For a curious young boy this resurfaced hamlet is a magical playground . . . until he unearths a human skeleton.
Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks is given the impossible task of identifying the victim – a woman who lived in a place that no longer exists, whose former residents are scattered to the winds. Anyone else might throw in the towel but DCI Banks is determined to uncover the murky past buried beneath a flood of time . . .
In A Dry Season is followed by the eleventh book in the Inspector Banks series, Cold is the Grave.

Poor choice of narrator for this particular book.
I had already read this book and enjoyed it very much. I wanted some background listening whilst doing chores; something I was familiar with so it wouldn't matter if I missed bits. It was a bad choice; I was so disappointed. I nearly abandoned the recording on several occasions. The narrator just wasn't 'right' for this book. His narrative voice was too posh. As the story is split into two timelines it really needed two narrators - a male and female. It was never clear when he had switched back in time as his female voices were poor. Alan Banks needed a more distinct accent. His phrasing and emphasis was odd at times. I hadn't noticed when reading the book just how much padding and flowery language was used; this was obvious when listening. Still a good plot though.

Very entertaining.
I enjoyed this book tremendously.
Good characters. The only thing I didn't like was the female characters portrayed as "needy". if you can ignore that element of the author's style the book delivers. For that reason I can only give it 4 stars.

Not enough action
I found this a little dull if I'm honest. It seemed very slow and not that interesting. Love Banks' and Annie's characters though and the narrator is great. Finally dropped the Lancashire tilt he gave his Yorkshire voices.

Returning this !
I usually like Peter Robinson books, but am really struggling with this one... the narration is so boring & its hard to determine who it is meant to be 'speaking' ..
Am returning this based on the fact, that it is really boring, with the droning tone of the narrator.
