Summary

'I have never before in my life kept a diary of my thoughts, and here at the start of my ninth decade, having for the moment nothing much else to write, I am having a go at it. Good luck to me.'

So begins this extraordinary audiobook, a collection of diary pieces that Jan Morris wrote for the Financial Times over the course of 2017.

A former soldier and journalist, and one of the great chroniclers of the world for over half a century, she writes here in her characteristically intimate voice - funny, perceptive, wise, touching, wicked, scabrous, and above all, kind - about her thoughts on the world, and her own place in it as she turns 90. From cats to cars, travel to home, music to writing, it's a cornucopia of delights from a unique literary figure.

A total pleasure from beginning to end; I didn’t want it to finish. Superb narration from Phyllida Nash.

The Pleasures of a Good Sh*t you may expostulate!

Jan has a tremendous command of language and this book is particularly delightful for lovers of North Wales, narrated superbly by Phillyda Nash. Jan has the unique experience of having lived half her life as a man and slightly more as a woman. Her musings are thus extra special and a delightful meander through day to day living as a still very vibrant super senior. As she says often,as well as the pleasures of a good sh*t , kindness is a marvellous virtue of humanity and she writes a lovely poem in its praise. Da iawn

Amusing commentary from someone who has known other times

Witty and pugnacious. I hope I have this spirit in my 90s. I feel the need to read some of her books.
