About this listen

An age has passed, a blight curses the land, and one hero stands above the rest to restore the balance.

Verdan Blacke is an Imperial Wizard, a researcher by preference but soldier by necessity. Surviving an intense battle, Verdan is cursed by a hex witch in her final moments. Without any good options, Verdan escapes the ever-increasing pain the curse inflicts by performing a self-made stasis ritual.

When the spell fades, and he has awoken, Verdan finds a world completely different from the one he left behind. Dark things work in daylight with impunity, once common knowledge is a mystery, and even the nature of magic that humans use has changed.

One wizard, a million problems, and the wrath of profound magic.

good story but voice acting makes it hard to follo

only halfway through with this but can't see it getting any better for the voice acting side.

some of the accents are hard to follow and whenever there is a whisper section the voice actor behaves In a manner that he is trying to hide the audio from the listener instead of just adding effect to the point where I need to turn the volume up a lot and go back to re listen.

the accents end up with some of the dialogue difficult to understand and can sometimes also be quiet. the narration is fine.

overall I would recommend buying this book to read it instead of the audiobook

Get your act together.

Whoever’s in charge of This circus: Gather up everybody involved in This travesty of a project, sit Them Down with yourselves and the author in-conference and LISTEN to the mess they’ve made of a perfectly Good story.
Inconsistency in characters’ lines, lazy editing leading to the fact that readers cannot distinguish if it’s “Kith” or “Xith” or whatever.
Bottom Line: there are CLEARLY SEVERAL SCREWUPS, but what EARNS the bad score?
How the hell did ALL these screwups Make it not just past the writer, the editor, the production team, the narrators, the post-production team AND proofreaders/listeners TO FINALLY actually getting released in such a state WITHOUT anybody so much as clearing their throat Like: “Um, doesn’t This Make us look lazy or bad at our jobs and reflect badly on our Company and paying customers…?”

Look… - This isn’t what I’d consider a bad story. God knows I’ve seen worse.
Fact is you Can do better. There are tons of other audiobooks that reflect that. When I hear rubbish work like This, (meaning the WORK is rubbish, the story is fine,) I get the unmistakeable feeling of somebody half-assing or Good-enoughing their job so they Can Call it a day, get paid in full for Said halfassery and not Care.
Newsflash Folks! The customers Care! Who’d have thought?

A Beginning

When you wake up from a snooze then realize it’s years to centuries later, it’s time to start again. Go out side and nothing is the way you expect. You’re not sure where you are.
This is a great story along with some great characters. Some good some not good and then there’s some that don’t need to exist. Many surprises are found.
The narrators do a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life with different attitudes.
I highly recommend this book.

Too Noblebright

The story overall is fine but it comes of as too naive and noble bright for my tastes. I may be spoiled by other stories but this series does not appeal to me.

one of the worst audio books out there

I have a library of 65 audio books. I don't really leave reviews as I'm quite easy-going and have a high tolerance for different styles and I'm not very picky when it comes to voice actors. this time I actually had to go out of my way to warn people away from this audiobook. it's one of the most expensive there at £7.99 and hands down the worst quality:

- horrible, forced accents that are difficult to understand
- female speech to text inserted as female witch character dialogue that is different tonality, different volume and breaks the rhythm of the story
- the narrator voice not different from main character voice. he tries to make it sound different but if the dialogue is more than a few sentences the actor reverts back to default, narration voice.
- the merchant's voice, Tobias, is difficult to understand and I constantly need to increase volume for his dialogue and decrease volume for main character dialogue.

I stopped listening a few chapters in and I will finish the story by reading it on the kindle. I usually listen to audio books when I'm driving so this is such a disappointment.

Don't buy it.
