Summary
The dramatic story of an X-wing pilot on the razor’s edge between the hero he once was and the power he could have—if he’s willing to embrace the Dark Side
Corran Horn was an officer in the Corellian Security Force before casting his lot with the New Republic. As the grandson of a legendary Jedi hero, he has latent Force powers that have yet to be developed. But he has managed to distinguish himself with Rogue Squadron, the X-wing fighter force that has become the scourge of the Empire and of the pirates that prey on Republic shipping.
When his wife, Mirax, vanishes on a covert mission for the New Republic, Corran vows to find her. He begins Jedi training at Luke Skywalker’s Jedi academy, hoping to develop his untapped powers. But as Corran grows dissatisfied with the Jedi master’s methods, he chooses to break with the academy before his training is finished.
Now Corran is on his own. Using his undercover experience, he must infiltrate, sabotage, and destroy a ruthless organization in order to find his wife. But to succeed, Corran will have to come to terms with his Jedi heritage—and make a terrible choice: surrender to the Dark Side . . . or die.

Love the original EU
One of my favourites from the EU. So glad they’re finally releasing them. Narrator was, as usual brilliant. My only gripe is that despite voicing Kenth Hamner in other books, in this book he made him Austrian 😆

Marc brought a boring story to life
The story isn’t bad but it lacks substance. I liked certain parts of it but overall, not in my top 10.

Mostly good
Having read the book, I decided to give this a shot and, for the most part, was really happy with it.
My biggest complaint is that, like the book, the change from the Jedi Academy to the rescue Mirax plot does feel like two different stories crammed together, but the characters and Corran's development kept me invested.
Also, while I liked Marc's narration, some of the choices he made gave me whiplash, particularly Kam and Tionne, who sound nothing like their voices in the Dark Empire radio drama and the Republic Commandos game respectively. A Schwaznegger impression and a valley girl accent, really?

Classic Star Wars and enhanced by the narrator. Marc Thompson really brings the EU to life

Took me two attempts
The first time I tried to listen to this book I didn't get very far. The opening problem with the hero's wife seemed a little too sensational. I hadn't read the X-Wing books and had virtually no context for the main character. I'd actually read the Abeloth arc, but I hadn't put two and two together to realise they were the same person. So, I put it down to bad writing at first. That must be why I couldn't connect with anything. I'm really glad that I took the time to go back and read the X-Wing books. More importantly, I'm really glad for the time I took a couple of years ago to read the comic book series about Exar Kun. It really added a great dimension to the novel.
I'm dropping a star because I don't think readers should need to do comic book homework in order to get such value from a novel story. But, overall I really liked it.

captivating and unique
I've always struggled with the whole 'jedi getting married' concept but this story gave a unique yet common storyline of a man rescuing his wife only this guy is a half trained jedi/rogue squad member. Enjoyed and listened to over one weekend. Give it a try.

Difficult to enjoy
In the last half, an annoying character appears who sucks in air and breathes out before each statement. I feel this is unnecessary, also they are still using the distracting pet shop style atmosphere background noise, it makes it difficult when there is a creature screeching in the back ground.
