Loved this

Found the book so funny. Really sensible practical advice. Covers lots of different types of writing from books to screen plays, writing for films and suggestions for further reading.

Quite entertaining. Quite insightful. A good

signal to noise ratio, and I certainly learned some worthwhile things. Not sure the French and Saunders recommendation was so hilarious.

I think it was interesting how at the end of the play section he warns us not to "hector" the audience and in the very next section I feel like I am on the receiving end of a great big hectoring that even Hector himself would find a bit of a troyal. There's a pun in their somewhere, maybe DQ can help fix it.

Absolutely wonderful book.

I am a published author. I write for two glossy national magazines and have writtren for newspapers, radio and television. I'm also a professional stand up comedian.
I also suffer from all the insecurities, laziness, self doubts and procrastinations the author talks about.
This book is beyond helpful to anyone who wants to write, or for the writer, it's great to hear you're not alone. it's full of genuinely helpful advice on practicality all aspects of writing.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

All of it

If it won't help you, you're mistaken.

Line up your excuses, your time-sapping internal chatter, and bend over as Quantick eviscerates them and thrashes some loving sense into you. Stuffed with stuff of the stuff of experience. If you enjoyed Stephen King's 'On Writing', this is as good, only different.

Don’t scroll past - this is a great little book

I write that because I almost scrolled past it myself - and I’m glad I didn’t. What, another book on writing? And a short book at that? No thanks. But then I paused for a second and listened to the preview. Wow, this actually sounds like something I could get on with, I thought. And so I bought it. Great decision.

Obviously, it doesn’t tell you how to write everything. But it does provide what sounds like some good common sense advice for new writers in many creative disciplines. And it’s all narrated in David Quantick’s friendly Devon accent. I enjoyed the narration so much, that I gave a character in my novel a very similar voice.

Actually, this book rescued my novel from a bit of a lull - and I finally made it over the 10k mark. David points out not just that you have to WRITE in order to write a novel (or anything, really) - but also that it’s ok for your first draft to be a bit rubbish. As a self-avowed perfectionist, this was great to hear. Will probably listen to this again, too.

Funny and entertaining even if you're not a writer

Worth listening to if you like TV, popular culture or live in the world. Also good if you write. I liked this audio book very much and will listen to it again.
