Interesting concept, poor delivery
I bought this book hoping to learn how to maximise my LinkedIn presence, but the audiobook was incredibly frustrating. It has not been proofread or edited by a professional, as it begins with a very odd long list of recommendations that do not translate well into an audiobook and sound just like pointless boasting. The book then proceeds into chapter after chapter of extremely similar content, with so much repetition I wanted to cry at some points. If I hear the phrase 'People buy People' one more time I might explode. There are countless references to Chris starting and exiting many businesses, but no information about why he kept exiting them - this is a dubious gap in the storyline, as it seems odd to make a successful business and then leave it, many times over. There are also many references to one of his multiple current firms, Black Marketing - too many in fact. Why keep telling us about it? He says we are unlikely to be able to afford him, so why keep flogging that horse?
It's not all bad, I have to admit, but the gems of great learning are scattered few and far between, and the final thing that makes them hard to find is the narrator. Oh my word.... this narrator is not built for this work, at all, ever, in any way. So I would have to say he was a huge turnoff. I ended up speeding up the voice to a normal pace (1.2x) as Bill reads artificially slowly, making it impossible to listen to at 1.0 x speed. The wrong narrator for this topic. There are also really odd issues with pronunciation, and intonation, that just made it very uncomfortable listening to for so many hours. I checked some samples of the narrator's other work, and he doesn't always talk like this, so I don't know why it's being done for this title. Anyway, try it and you will see what I mean.
In closing, with editing to 50% of it's current length, removal of repetition and recommendations, and a totally new recording, this book would be worth a listen in the car/train/bus. Until then, just listen to one of Chris's YouTube videos on the same topic for free, you'll get all you need from him there, in his much more engaging and interesting style and tone.
