About this listen
Jason Thorpe was content living a quiet life in New Orleans. He and his best friend, Ode, opened their cozy curios shop in the French Quarter, and he was making some new, albeit interesting, friends....
Then Jason met Varic Maedoc, the prince of the vampyrs, and his life changed forever.
Named the prince’s consort, Jason quickly became the most important subject in the vampyr realm, the man who holds the wolf of Maedoc’s heart - a position that comes with certain obligations and no small amount of influence. Theirs is a partnership of love and a lifetime commitment, but that bond is about to be tested when Varic must return to court and Jason accompanies him.
The king’s court in Malta is unlike anything Jason could have imagined. Amid the luxury and decadence of the palace is an air of danger and intrigue he is unprepared for, further complicated by new friends and allies who may not be what they seem. To stand beside and protect Varic, Jason must use every weapon in his arsenal to uncover a plot to usurp the king and reveal the identities of those who would see Jason dead before accepting him as their consort.
His single greatest asset is the love of his prince, but even that may not be enough to save Jason’s life.

Dreamy narration
Scott R Smith is a fantastic narrator! A man of many voices and his intonations for drama and comedy are spot on! Mary Calmes has excelled herself in book 2 of this endearing story. I enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you!

Emotional roller coaster
I truly love this story as much as the first. Scott did a great job performing it and I have listened to it many, many times.
During the first time I listened to it I kept thinking this must be it, now the story is done. Only to realise that there was hours left. I laughed and cried several times and was wrung out emotionally when it was done.
I love the chemistry between the different characters and how they interact with each other.
Here's to hoping there will be another book in the series as I do love Jason and Varic and is curious about what will happen next.

Review of audio book
I loved the book when I read it initially, but the audiobook was just ... more!
So lovely, so engaging, so sad, so beautiful, so heart full; I can thoroughly recommend it as a fine listen.

absolutely brilliant it was the continuation of the first book that I was looking for. although he met and lost new friends his character stayed strong. I am hoping there might be a third book with this couple. Keep them coming.

Excellent book, bad listening after chapter 15
Excellent book, bad performance after chapter 15. I could not listen to the end. Chapter 16 glitches so badly, it took away the enjoyment of listening the story. Please fix the glitching parts.

Many of the Characters Are out of Place
I feel that the author has never been to Malta, Sicily, or Northern Africa. The characters are not described as people that were from that region of the world. Character, Norrilla is stated to be from Cameroon, yet she is described as someone from Norway. I found this to be very disappointing and distracting.
I will not be purchasing any more stories from the author.
