Summary

Regal romance abounds in this flirty, laugh-out-loud companion novel to Prince Charming, by New York Times best-selling author Rachel Hawkins.

Millie Quint is devastated when she discovers that her sort-of-best friend/sort-of-girlfriend has been kissing someone else. Heartbroken and ready for a change of pace, Millie decides to apply for scholarships to boarding schools...the farther from Houston the better.

Soon, Millie is accepted into one of the world's most exclusive schools, located in the rolling highlands of Scotland. Here, the country is dreamy and green; the school is covered in ivy, and the students think her American-ness is adorable.

The only problem: Mille's roommate Flora is a total princess.

She's also an actual princess. Of Scotland.

At first, the girls can't stand each other, but before Millie knows it, she has another sort-of-best-friend/sort-of-girlfriend. Princess Flora could be a new chapter in her love life, but Millie knows the chances of happily ever afters are slim...after all, real life isn't a fairy tale...or is it?

New York Times best-selling author Rachel Hawkins brings the feels and the laughs to her latest romance.

Great story but insufferable narrator

The perfect warm and squishy Rom-com book, but I could not stand the Scottish accents and mispronunciation of words (plebs = pleebs was one of the worst).

great story

loved it, it's a good story and I did not mind the accents but I am neither from Scotland nor Texas. I actually quite liked the voice.

Love a queer romance

I really liked this book, it was a quick listen and fluffy romance, which is rare with queer stories. The Scottish accents are quite off unfortunately, which was a little bit distracting. I did think that the book had a kind of rushed ending too, but other than that, it was a good read and I'd read it again!

Great Story but Insulting Accents from Narrator

I recommend you buy this book in paper or ebook format. The narrator's ham-fisted attempt at multiple Scottish Accents (weirdly the posh English accents were closer to Scottish) is so far off that all the Scottish characters sound like they look like Shrek and Fiona. She paints 'ugly' with her voice quite effectively but totally ruins the characters as a result as they're supposed to be beautiful young royals. Respect all Rachel Hawkins' hard work and put some effort in yourself and actually read the story. It's a great story beyond Karissa Vacker's insulting and wholly distracting attempt at Scottish accents.

Amazing, highly recommended

The story is warm and fluffy, one of the best romcoms out there.

The other reviews say the accents are bad, but as a non british person I diden’t notice.

Royal School

When I read the write up of this book I was excited to listen to it, as it sounded different, and I haven’t listened to anything by this author or narrator before and I wanted a change. I will say firstly that the book was well written and I really enjoyed the story. The narrator was fantastic and brought the story to life and the voices of the different characters were individual which I love as I know who is who.

I will be keeping an eye out for this author and narrator in the future.

The only thing I would say is I would have liked the two main characters Millie and Flora to have more detailed story about their interactions they shared, the special moments that made them go from enemies to loving each other. As I felt that Millie spent a lot of time with her friends, which were great characters as well, but I personally wanted more of Millie and Flora together.

The story was written from the point of view of Millie.

Overall excellent

I have no complaints about the actual book, however the performance is very poor surrounding the non American accents, the narrators attempt at the accent was so poor it took me a while to figure it out, I’m from Scotland nobody speaks like that. However the book is very good

Cute story that will leave you feeling happy

This is a super cute story. Indulge in the idea that there is a Scottish monarchy and you will find yourself smiling as you read through the chapters at this charming love story.

I found the attempt at the Scottish accent took me out of the story from time to time, but the story itself is so endearing that you learn to forgive it.
