Summary
A dragon’s egg heralds a dark destiny for the Kingdom of Fae…
Strange new magic has been unleashed upon the Fae of Charassi, and King Corrin is wary. Disaster seems to follow in the wake of this wild enchantment. And all the while, a sinister force lurks in the shadows, tearing at the cracks between worlds.
Meanwhile, Queen Ophelia is determined to hatch the ill-fated dragonling known as Starstriker. A prophecy has foretold that this hatchling will bring doom to the Fae. But Ophelia herself was once prophesied to bring disaster to Charassi. Perhaps, like her, this egg can lead the realm to a brighter future.
Time is running out. Starstriker needs to hatch now, but the evil magic of the Wild Hunt has left her shell unbreakable. Ophelia and her dragon must embark on a dangerous journey to the mysterious Heart of the Realms, hoping to find a cure, before the hatchling dies.
And If she fails, Ophelia’s quest may lead to both her and her kingdom’s doom…

Entertaining but not as enjoyable as previous books
I was super excited for this audiobook. I didn’t find this book as enjoyable as the previous ones. It is entertaining. It’s a continuation of the story and written as if it can be a stand alone. Narration continues to be awesome! And I’m excited to start the next book in the series.

See through the eyes of others!
It is often difficult to understand how others feel. I like how the author addresses this topic. Where are the feelings of others, how would I act in their place? This story with dragons and elves keeps you in suspense until the end. A book for those who want to relax in the realm of fantasy and at the same time make you think.
The narrator conveys the emotional story and lets you be part of it

High queen and king with their dragons save realms
This is the fifth book in the series which starts with a Texan teenager accidentally bonding with a dragon and becoming the fae high queen in a realm outside Earth.
The previous books give you the story of how she gets into a relationship with the previous high prince, their battles with unlikely foes and their attitude to power and leadership. The book immediately before this gives you the story of the dragon egg, its origin, significance and why our heroic couple have to battle to save it. Please take my advice and enjoy the previous tales before embarking upon this one as it will both spoil some of those plots and not give you the rich background and understanding from being exposed to the worldbuilding.
I have not given the full five stars as the author has again divided the story between the two main characters and their respective dragons. Although you are told whose perspective is being given at the start of each chapter, I felt the parallel stories and endeavours lost pace cutting backwards and forwards. The two main characters again spent quite a lot of time apart so the story and plot focus kept shifting. There are plenty of action scenes including dragon riding and physical as well as magical combat. Using magic has a price and can vary from losing a memory to losing a life. The adversary in this book is a super-dragon with puppeting skills and a dictatorial intent. The conundrum our main characters face is that saving the baby dragon will free this evil enemy from prison. You will have to read/listen to the book to learn what they decided. Satisfying ending whilst setting up for a sequel.
The narrator has improved in distinguishing who is speaking and I thought voiced the baby dragon well.
