Summary
As her passionately devoted fans know, Elizabeth Hand is a uniquely gifted storyteller. Listeners were introduced to her iconoclastic crime novels, featuring offbeat photographer Cass Neary, in the underground classic Generation Loss, which was followed by the brilliant Available Dark. In Hard Light, the third book in the series, Cass makes a remarkable discovery that could change our understanding of human history - if she lives long enough to share it.
As the story opens, Cass arrives in London, where she's arranged to meet her long-lost lover, Quinn O'Boyle. When Quinn fails to show at their rendezvous point, Cass meets the eccentric couple Mallo and Morven Dunfries. When Mallo catches Cass rifling through his medicine cabinet in search of drugs, he threatens to turn her in to the authorities then puts her to work as a runner for his illegal goods. Cass makes a delivery to Poppy Teasel, a famous singer from long ago. Cass leaves Poppy's flat but returns a short time later to find the place ransacked and Poppy dead. Fearful she'll become the next victim, Cass goes on the run.

I am completely obsessed with the series. The sultry voice of Carol Monda is perfect for the character. can't wait to listen to all 3 again.

Good Story but…..
Good story but the English accents were painful. Enjoyed the narration in Cassie’s voice but then it went into Dick Van Dyck territory,

Enjoyed all the bonkers Cass Neary novels
Meet Cass Neary, one hit wonder photographer of dead bodies, who manages to get herself mixed up in all kinds of bonkers situations well outside the norm. She's a deeply unreliable narrator, being druggy, drunk and often unsympathetic. But her tender care for younger women is her redeeming feature. Kept me going for a few days and recommended.

Fantastic series
Story and narrator totally engaging, and I love that Cass’ adventures took her to London and Cornwall.

Terrible Accents!
I really enjoyed the story but the supposedly English accents were appalling. And there’s a lot of ‘British English’ spoken. This should be re-recorded with an English narrator who’s good at American accents. Or a better American narrator. It really made me wince throughout.

An Amazingly Addictive Series!!
Another smasher! Cass has popped up super locally this time, so it’s far easier to visualise the seediness of Camden (literally where I grew up) and the Brixton grit. As usual, Cass never opts of the easy route! After a one night stand, Cass cagoules her way to a birthday party, opening up yet another can of worms! Really great characters and the storyline kept twisting and turning to the very end! I would have to agree with the other reviews regarding the English accents… but the narrators other accents were great as usual! I am so disappointed the next/last in the series is not available on Audible, but I need to know what happens next, so have ordered a copy from the US (none available here in London) but I have no doubt it will be well worth it! I can’t recommend this series enough!

TERRIBLE accents!
I'm English and this book is set in London. The voice actress cannot do an English accent of any variety...we're talking Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins here. I read the first two Cass Neary books and and will go back to reading the third. Whoever hired the voice actress made a big mistake.

Had to give up, as narration too painful!
I really enjoyed the first two books in this series and was looking forward to this one. I’d seen the reviews about the bad ‘British’ accent but thought it couldn’t possibly be that bad.
Spoiler: it really really is.
Accents that swing between dick van dyke and cilla black via Ian paisley and weirdly crocodile dundee. All in the same character.
What a shame. Had to return it!
